History
During the Succession Wars, the Ninth Illician Rangers changed from a medium to a heavy regiment. They acted as a primary raiding force and took heavy losses in this campaign.[1]
First stationed on the Draconis border, they were later relocated to the Capellan March for rest and refit. They fought during the FedCom Civil War for Victor Steiner-Davion and paid for their loyalty in blood.[1]
FedCom Civil War
Sirdar
On Sirdar, together with the First Federated Suns Armored Cavalry, the Twenty-first Illician Rangers and the Davion Light Guards, they forced the defending March Militia to surrender but suffered moderate losses during this victory.
Jihad
The Ninth Rangers forced the defending St. Cyr's Armored Hussars on Sendalor to retreat in 3068. Later in the campaign the Rangers raided Homestead successfully.[citation needed]
The Homestead raids found the Ninth attacking elements of the Third Confederation Reserve Cavalry. The defending CCAF troops split into lance-size units and proceeded to harass the invading mercenaries. These units were particularly popular with the locals, who despised the Ninth.[2]
