Planetary History

Abbeville had the misfortune of being one of more than fifty worlds to be struck by attacks as a part of the wave of attacks across the Inner Sphere dubbed the "Bloody Tricentennial" attacks. In the case of Abbeville, the town of LaBostrie was devastated by a chemical weapon of some kind, although it isn't known if LaBostrie was the intended target; as LaBostrie is - or was - a suburb of the planetary capital, Cottonport, a suburb predominantly occupied by warehouses and shipping facilities, and as the chemical weapon outbreak was reported as being the Feuilletemps Cartage and Freight warehouse, it may well be that Cottonport was the actual target.[27]

As with many other Bloody Tricentennial attacks, LaBostrie was hit in the early hours of the 12th of October 3080. Shortly after 7am local time, residents near the Feuilletemps Cartage and Freight warehouse contacted their local utility company, complaining of a strange odor, and slightly later a grey cloud that appeared to be emanating from the warehouse. By 7.30am, the first deaths were being reported. The evacuation of LaBostrie began with chaos, but local authorities managed to restore order and evacuate the remains of the area in a reasonably orderly fashion, aided by the district's relatively low population compared to a residential area. LaBrosterie was then quarantined, with military hazmat teams arrived within days; based on population rolls and aerial surveys, more than 400 people out of a population of some 2,000 were believed to have been killed, with bodies visible on the streets and in domiciles.[27]
