The Addicks system is the location of at least one habitable planet, Addicks IV, and as at 3145 was located in the Ashio Prefecture within the Dieron Military District of the Draconis Combine.[3][4]

System Description

In addition to the presence of Addicks IV, the Addicks system has also been home to at least one recharge station; during the thirty-first century a recharge station was present at the system nadir jump point.[1]

System History

The Addicks system has changed hands repeatedly since it was colonised at some point prior to the Age of War.[5] Incorporated into the Terran Hegemony at some point prior to the founding of the Capellan Confederation, Addicks would remain a Hegemony system until the fall of the Star League.[6] After the fall of the Star League the Addicks system fell on the border between the Draconis Combine, Federated Suns and changed hands repeatedly.[7][8][9][10][3]

Addicks IV

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Addicks IV is the fourth planet in the Addicks system, and is commonly known simply as Addicks.[1][2] Addicks has been host to defense manufacturing industries belonging to at least two companies, Tauken Weapon Systems and Johnston Industries, and several Castles Brian.[2]

Planetary History

Colonization

Addicks was settled by English, French, and Greek colonists from Terra. The world was blessed with fertile soil, large freshwater lakes, and abundant mineral resources. The colonists were quickly joined by mining companies that took advantage of the world's easily accessed resources. The planet didn't just have industrial concerns, however; many farming communities were also established. [2] These colonists didn't arrive as one large group but rather as several smaller groups, and the two largest groups of initial colonists both claimed to be the primary colony established on the planet. This led to confusion over even basic details like the names of the continents, even after the Terran Hegemony selected one particular set of naming conventions for official use.[1]

During the first Star League Addicks was home to Tauken Weapons Systems, a company that specialized in combat vehicles and personal weapons. The factories were purchased by Johnson Industries, but the Succession Wars destroyed them.[2]

Amaris Civil War

During the height of the Star League Addicks had developed into a thriving world with a large population and a significant industrial output and was a fairly major world within the Terran Hegemony. In common with other such worlds across the Hegemony, the Star League Defense Force had built several Castles Brian across Addicks and there was still an SLDF garrison in place when Stefan Amaris launched his coup that began the Amaris Civil War on the 27th of December 2766.[11]

Amaris had detailed a substantial force of Rim Worlds Republic force to subdue Addicks, but the initial attacks on the 27th of December failed, leaving the SLDF forces still in control of the bulk the Castles Brian and determined to resist. The Republican forces resorted to the extensive use of weapons of mass destruction to prepare the way for their ground assaults, and as a result the civilian population of Addicks suffered greatly, as did the local infrastructure. The exact death toll incurred in the Republican campaign isn't known, but estimates place it anywhere from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands.[11]

Succession Wars

Addicks became a forward logistical base and headquarters world for the AFFS. The AFFS basically turned the entire Sparro continent into one large AFFS facility. Many of the AFFS bases and installations found on Addicks were found underground.[1] The MIIO also established a Regional Command center on Addicks.[12]

The Jihad

In April 3068 a combination of Word of Blake forces and mercenaries in their employ raided numerous worlds close to Terra, including Addicks.[13] The Blakists followed this up with a planetary assault in the second week of August 3069, quickly conquering Addicks and incorporating it into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[9]

Addicks was liberated by April 3077 by troops fighting as a part of Group IV of the Federated Suns front of Operation SCOUR, led by Khan Phelan Kell of Clan Wolf in Exile. Addicks was one of four planets which made up the first wave of the Federated Suns campaign,[14] and the campaign to liberate Addicks was actually brought forward by a month due to the success the 12th Vegan Rangers had during their recon raid on Addicks in early 3077, where the Rangers nearly routed the Blakist defenders on their own.[15]

After the many centuries of war on Addicks, the world's agricultural output was severely reduced. It could grow enough to feed its citizens but not enough to feed surrounding systems.[1]

The Dark Age

During the Dark Age the continents of Frankalia and Asukel were home to large farming communities.[2]

Geography

Addicks has four continents, the names of which are subject to some controversy due to the manner in which the planet was colonised. According to the official taxonomy established by the Terran Hegemony there are two equatorial continents, Frankalia and Auskel, one located in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern; a third continent, Landersia, is in the nothern hemisphere, while the fourth continent lies in the southern hemisphere and is named Sparro.[2] The alternative names for the four continents used by the second group of initial colonists persisted in use until at least as late as the thirtieth century; under that naming convention Frankalia is known as Bureigo, Auskel as Silesia, Landersia as Tauken and Sparro as Loknar.[1]

The world has a very dense, high pressure atmosphere that is difficult for visitors to breathe. Despite the extra effort visitors require to inhale the thick atmosphere, the atmosphere itself isn't tainted.[1]
