The Alphecca system is the location of at least one inhabited world, Alphecca II, and as at 3145 was located in the Jade Falcon Occupation Zone.[2][3]

System Description

The Alphecca system has five planets and a single primary class A0V star.[1]

System History

The Alphecca system was settled prior to the mid-twenty-fourth century and was a member of the Federation of Skye prior to the formation of the Lyran Commonwealth.[4]

Alphecca II

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Alphecca II is the second planet of five in the Alphecca system and has a single moon named Xanti.[1]

Planetary History

Alphecca has few mineral resources and so was settled as an agricultural world. With little industry to attract raiding forces, Alphecca was spared most of the devastation of the Succession Wars, FedCom Civil War, and the Jihad. The people of Alphecca were content, just surviving at a basic subsistence level without striving to change anything about their world. Although Alphecca changed hands between the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine twice during the Succession Wars neither nation regaded it as anything more than a quiet location for rest and recuperation or an occasional staging area for raids. The native population continued to maintain quiet lives, with the main planetary exports being grain and gillarg meat - the gillar being an unintelligent native amphibian described as resembling a cross between a cowardly, toothless alligator and a cow.[1]

Fourth Succession War

Alphecca was an early target of Operation CONTAGION, the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery counter-offensive following the successes of the Lyran Commonwealth's Operations GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG and HOLDUR, which had seen the Commonwealth capture numerous worlds but spread the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces thinly. CONTAGION was intended to hit behind the front line and spread through weakly defended interior worlds; leading the invasion of Alphecca was a battalion from the Third Dieron Regulars, bolstered by numerous support regiments. Opposing the invaders was a planetary militia consisting of two armoured regiments, the First and Second Alphecca Guard, bolstered by a sorry collection of infantry and reservists. The Alphecca Guard fortified defensive lines near Galanette Rainbow, the planetary capital city, but after the initial contact attempted to hold the city, rather than falling back, and were swiftly defeated as a result.[5][6]

Dark Age

When the planet became part of Prefecture IX of the Republic, a large number of relocated citizens arrived. This was the single most exciting event to occur on Alphecca in forty years. Strangely, the new arrivals quickly adopted the lackadaisical attitude of the long-term residents.[1]

In 3144 Clan Jade Falcon assaulted Alphecca, and in a campaign lasting less than two weeks, drove the defending Hastati Sentinel forces offworld. The relative ease with which the Jade Falcons captured Alphecca was in large part due to the effective manner in which the Jade Falcons used the advanced Kite Reconnaissance Vehicle, variously using points of Kites to: find and disrupt the Sentinels mobile headquarters, allowing for a surgical strike against the Sentinel rear echelon forces; detect, prevent and disrupt ambushes against Jade Falcon forces while directing artillery against hidden units, and acting as part of a dedicated hunter-killer unit targeting attacks of opportunity against Sentinel units.[7]

Geography

Alphecca is a largely unremarkable world. The major landmasses on Alphecca consist of six island continents named Gataka, Greim, Korinthas, Mursank, Rubekka and Shario, and a host of smaller island chains; many of the islands spend much of their time covered by clouds and mist. The various islands are largely uniform in appearance, consisting of grassy plains and rolling hills interspersed with the occasional rocky mountain peak. Two of the continents, Gataka and Rubekka, are located in the northern hemisphere; the other four island continents are located in the southern hemisphere, with the polar continent of Greim being the southernmost continent.[1]

Planetary Locations

  • Fescher's Dock: located on Rubekka, Fescher's Dock is the largest seaport city on the planet.[1]
  • Galanette Rainbow: the planetary capital city, located on Gataka.[1]
