History

Between the years of 3030 and 3040 the Duchy of Andurien rebelled against the Free Worlds League, seceding to create a small nation state unto itself. This is now refered to as the Andurien Crisis or, more formally, the Andurian Secession Crisis.[1]

In the waning years of the Fourth Succession War the ruler of the Duchy of Andurien, Dame Catherine Humphreys, forged a secret alliance with Magestrix Kyalla Centrella of the Magistracy of Canopus pledging both military and political support between the two governments.[1]

In 3030, with the Capellan Confederation reeling from the repeated attacks by the Federated Suns, the secret alliance took bold steps to increase their influence and power in the politics of the Inner Sphere. The Duchy declared independence from the Free Worlds League and the joint forces of the two nations attacked Liao held space.[2]

Though the combined force of the Defenders of Andurien and the Magistracy Armed Forces had some success in the initial drives of the campaign, the battered Liao forces in time rallied and forced the invaders out, negating all gains the alliance had made. With their initial plans in awry the alliance leaders tried to regroup and find other avenues to pursue their goals of power and dominance. Unfortunately they did not have the time.[2]

When news of the Andurien secession reached the other League planets it created a backlash in favor of the Marik rulers. Using this mandate Captain-General Janos Marik took steps to consolidate his power, most significantly with the creation of the Internal Emergency Act of 3030. The primary provision of this act was to strip many of the powers of the Home Defense Act which had limited the power of both the Captain-General and the League government. This allowed the central government to demand combat forces from local and regional governments. Under previsions of the overturned Home Defense Act local governments could refuse demands of resources and combat personnel for any reason deemed appropriate by that government. This put the power to prosecute wars and rebellion in the hands of the central government rather than the regional governments where it had formerly resided. It should be noted that the Principality of Regulus and the Duchy of Oriente, who were supporters of the Internal Emergency Act, were not subject to the new Acts restrictions.[1]

With a newly invigorated army and a mandate from the peoples of the FWL the Captain-General moved the forces of the League against the rebellious Duchy. Seeing the writing on the wall Majestrix Centrella withdrew from the alliance and left the Humphrey's government to fend for itself. By 3040 League forces overran the Duchy and reclaimed it as League space. The defeated Defenders of Andurien were disbanded and their equipment used to create a new unit, the Free Worlds Legionnaires.[1]

The Andurien Secession Crisis set the stage for many changes in the governmental policies of the Free Worlds League. The adoption of Thomas Marik's Addendum to the Incorporation can be directly related to this and the other conflicts that engulfed the Inner Sphere during this period. The Addendum formalized and made permanent many of the emergency laws and policy changes that were enacted in response to the Crisis. Another change which can be linked to the Crisis is the enactment of the Military Reorganization Act which standardized military education and the structure of the Free Worlds League Military, making a body of soldiers that was loyal to the Free Worlds League as a whole rather than being loyal to any regional, world or local governmental body.[1]

Outcome:The Scouts act as counter force to the invading Anduriens. But the disadvantage of the scouts changed their mind. After some engagements with the Defenders the mercs retreated back to Westerhand. A following Maskirovka investigation, because the CO had act of his own and without orders of the CCAF convinced him to left the Confederation in direction AFFC.[10]

Outcome:The CO of the Cavalry think they could catch the invader in their transports but in reality the Defenders make sub orbital drops. Outcome:Both sides get reinforcement.The fight continued. The Capellans used small formations to set ambushes and the Andurien used their lager numbers to crush the defenders. During such a engagement a child of the Duchess was killed. Her response was this is the kind of warfare.[12]

Outcome:The landing were uncontested. In a false feeling of security a bomb attack changed this immediatley. The Defenders strike from their hidden position and deliver high damage. The Guards had only one Battalion for the fight and the 25th were incapable to fight (both CO's were killed during the explosion). The ongoing battle ended only with the withdrew of the Defenders.[25]
The heir of the throne, Thomas Marik, reappeared in front of the gathered assembly. Duncan Marik must prove his worth as a commander/leader of the nation. His decision was his doom.

Part 1:The prize for this planet was high for the royal forced. The Marik troops tried to pin the Defenders in a place to deliver the final blow, but an engagement cost Duncan Marik his life. The 15th faltered under the pressure of the Defenders and only the 10th continued to fight.
Part Two:The Tooth defend the retreating defenders but lost their CO during these action. The new CO's does not renew the contract and headed of world. Both Defenders command retreated also offworld.[26]

Outcome:The naval battle cost both sides. The defenders lost 6 dropships and 50 fighters; the invaders lost only 36 fighters together with 3 dropships.
The landing was contested from the beginning. The First Regulan Hussars pinned the 3rd Defenders of Andurien in place, where the Eleventh Atrean Dragoons destroyed the command to the last man.
The First Defenders of Andurien met the FWL Guards near a large city. The 4th Defenders came to their relief. The FWL Guards destroyed the 4th but suffered horrendous losses as well.
The next battle was extended with the arrival of new troops from the FWLM. The Sixth Defenders gave their best, but could not stop the siege. The 1st Defenders released the shattered 6th after heavy fighting with the invaders. With the capture of Dame Humphreys the fight ended erupted anew, but she called all Anduriens to stand down and accept the new order from the FWLM. The Defenders were disbanded. Their machines comprised the core of the newly-formed Free World Legionnaires and Clan Humphreys lost all privileges and the right to rule over Andurien.[31]
