Overview

Antallos is a Periphery colony situated spinward of the Draconis Combine and coreward of the Outworlds Alliance. The barren wastes ("Free Zones") of Antallos are home to the worst of humanity. The chemically and biologically tainted Free Zones are home to roving gangs and itinerant pirate bands. The economy of Antallos, such as it is, now runs off of (mainly illegal) free trade.

History

First settled in 2674 as a joint venture by companies from the Draconis Combine, Federated Suns, Outworlds Alliance, and Terran Hegemony, Antallos was originally planned as a Star League trading outpost. It was to be a neutral planet where anyone can come to do business.

The bold experiment was a huge success in the era of the Star League. Wealthy patrons, eager to establish their own fortunes on the otherwise barren frontier world, created successful enclaves that drew in billions and eventually caused the Star League to plant their own bases on the planet in the interest of security.

When the Succession Wars broke out, the Draconis Combine (among others) ravaged the planet for its lostech, eventually massacring half the population. This catastrophe resulted in the collapse of civilization, and Antallos's city-states started fighting amongst themselves. Combatants deployed weapons of every type (except atomic and nuclear). As technology and resources dwindled, the intensity and barbarism of these wars have remained unchecked.

During the Mid-3050s, the planet is adopted by the rogue mercenary unit, Vincent's Viliganties, which attempts to be the planet's guardians while trying to get work. Also during this time, Pirate King, Vance Rezak & Band of the Damned establishes their own estates on the outskirts of the city-states. The two powerful factions have clashes with the over the course of years, until 3065. Where the Viliganties command collapses in failed assault on the Band, then joins the them peacefully. The Damned becomes a powerful faction on the planet.[1]

Conditions

Antallos is a hot, dry, and mostly barren. Almost 90% of the planet is land most of which is either featureless deserts or rugged badlands, referred to as "Free Zones". Most of these are rendered uninhabitable by hostile native wildlife and the residue from biological and chemical warfare. The planet has five large seas and lakes, two small polar caps, and thick untamed jungle that dominates the equatorial regions.

In the northern hemisphere, the Sea of Despair is a vast lifeless desert surrounded by a few city-states which manage to trade across it. To the south is the Shattered Wastes, a badland region thousands of kilometers long that holds the distinction of being one of the roughest areas in the Periphery. The planet’s most vicious native predators live here among the hidden oases that hold small communities.

Society

Scattered around the world are just over thirty, generally dome-enclosed city-states providing a semblance of order for the majority of the world’s population. Because there is no central government, these city-states are independent, providing only their residents with security against the Zone Gangs that drift through the Free Zones. City-states often finance their existence through slavery and narcotics trafficking as well as other more serious activities. The defense of each city-state is provided by armies of slaves.

Antallos has recently become home to a small but growing collection of dezgra Clansmen and survivors of Clan Smoke Jaguar. Now belonging to the Clans’ Dark Caste, these survivors, of all types, have formed their own version of a Zone Gang. Clan “gypsies” and other nomadic raiders employ every type of weaponry (from deadly fauna to BattleMechs) and wander the Free Zones between the cities preying on travelers and other gangs. When demanded, itinerant raiders will sporadically bid their services to local warlords for crucial goods.

Antallos is also home to outlaws aligned with every major organized crime syndicate within the Inner Sphere, pirates and renegades (including Vinson's Vigilantes), outcasts, prospectors, adventurers and political extremists (including Citizens for Davion Puirty).

Port Krin: The Open City

The wealthiest and largest city on the planet, Port Krin was first established soon after the colonists arrived. Located on the eastern shores of TaliSea, “the Port” evolved into a freshwater fishing community made rich by a gold rush. When the Succession Wars broke out, the city was devastated as pirates and Combine raiders constantly sacked the world.

Those city-states that managed to survive the Succession Wars were forced to rebuild their economies through illegal projects, and Port Krin was no exception. The Port became a haven for smugglers and slavers and was also one of the most aggressive city-states to rise from the first two Succession Wars. Port Krin became a refuge for pirates eager to conceal themselves from authorities or sell their enslaved persons and other illegal gains. Shortly after the 4th Succession War, fortune favored Port Krin; several small caches of lostech survived and were discovered in the Free Zone near the city, bringing a flood of treasure-hunters (and their money).

Today the politics of the Port remain as deadly as ever. Numerous groups have taken over the City, each one worse than the last. The latest in a long line of rulers is Vance Rezak and his Band of the Damned. Despite this, the city is run reasonably well. Brutal punishment is meted out on the spot for murder and thievery, assuming the culprits can not bribe themselves free. This type of law enforcement maintains enough order for the city to collect taxes and assures that local traders are not disrupted.

Port Krin not only thrives on the slave, drug and weapons trades, but also on the less important commerce provided by its own dueling circuit. Similar to the Solaris VII games, the Port hosts its own arenas for ‘Mech and man-to-man combat. An entire entertainment industry has grown up around these “games”, including gambling, nightclubs and even a local media outlet centered on Krin Entertainment, Incorporated.

Mercenary Trade

There are no hiring halls or anything even resembling a hiring hall. Since most of the mercenaries coming to this world are down-on-their-luck or wanted men, hiring halls are impractical. Many of the mercenary groups may have a price on their head, yet they make themselves available to hire in the hopes of finding a way out of their predicament and finding a small amount of legitimacy.

Most of the deals that are brokered through this planet are those types that no normal mercenary group would take. Contracts may be signed by trickery or force, and may even include pirates as employers.

Jihad Update

Clan Snow Raven’s invasion of Antallos and occupation has completely disrupted all mercenary operations on the planet.
