Anton Hara was the captain and commanding officer of the mercenary DropShip Kaylin. He had "malachite" eyes, and his face was described as "leathery".[1]

As of 3067, Lenard Bryce had served as Hara's trusted executive officer for more than a decade already,[2] and Hara was implied to be a seasoned veteran and relatively old already, though his actual age was never mentioned.

Hara operated in Free Worlds League space and he and Bryce occasionally referenced House Marik culture,[3] suggesting they Hara was a Free Worlds League native like Bryce (who was of Regulan origin).

History[edit]

The Kaylin under captain Hara had been hired by Interstellar Expeditions to support Dr. Brooklyn Stevens and her team in the search for the famed lost world of Jardine, and as of 29 July 3067 was waiting for orders in the Alterf system with an IE liaison officer, Nathan Bellamy, aboard. The Kaylin was attached to a JumpShip, the Broken Knee, but Hara was the overall mission commander to the point where the crew and skipper of the JumpShip were not even mentioned by name.

They were ordered to rendez-vous with Stevens's JumpShip Sacajawea in the Shasta sytem, where they made contact on 13 October. However, Stevens and IE had a tumultous past, and she was extremely wary of Hara's so-called support mission (of which she had not been advised beforehand), feeling he might mistake mission support for mission control. Their limited cooperation was marked by mutual mistrust.

The Word of Blake meanwhile sought to protect the secret of Jardine at all costs. They had attempted to kill Stevens and her team on Shasta already but failed; another attempt was the arrival of the DropShip Luminus Omega that attacked both the Sacajawea and the Kaylin. Stevens's ship managed to jump out of the ongoing space battle to Jardine, the location of which they had just found out, and shared teh jump data with the Kaylin. However, either by accident or by design the data was corrupted in transmission, forcing the Broken Knee to jump into deep space to evade the battle, recharge its jump drive from the ship's reactor, and determine the correct jump coordinates before jumping into the Jardine system proper. This gave Stevens a two-week headstart in exploring Jardine.

Hara and Bellamy, readily prepared to betray Stevens, assumed that she had likewise tried to betray them. When Stevens's K-1 DropShuttle (the Magellan, was shot down over Jardine and crashlanded while her ship was operating under EMCON, they knew the system to be hostile.

Stevens later launched from the surface to escape from Jardine with a DropShip in pursuit. Hara and Bellamy decided to intercept her fleeing DropShuttle before the Sacajawea could pick her up, to effectively take her prisoner and steal her groundbreaking discovery of Jardine. To this end, they used the Broken Knee for an in-system jump bringing them closer to her K-1 and detached the Kaylin. They discovered too late that the K-1 was not Stevens's DropShuttle at all, but a trojan horse carrying Manei Domini boarding troops. The Manei Domini, led by Apollyon himself, proceeded to board the Kaylin on 9 November 3067. Anton Hara and implicitly everybody else aboard was killed.[4]
