History
The beginnings of the Ariana Fusiliers lay in the various militia units of the Chesterton Trade League. When the Tikonov Grand Union was formed from the merger of the earlier Tikonov Union and the Chesterton Trade League, the armed forces of the Trade League, the Chesterton Army, were reconstituted as a new brigade within the Grand Union's armed forces, the Chesterton Regulars.[1]
Having established the Chesterton Regulars, the Tikonov Grand Union went on to reorganize the various militia units within the Chesterton worlds into a new formation, the Chesterton Border Guards. Despite the change, the Border Guards remained a distinctly second-tier formation within the Chesterton Regulars,[1] and in 2388 the surviving elements of the Border Guards were amalgamated together into a new regiment, the Ariana Fusiliers, by the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces, the military arm of the Capellan Confederation, the state which the Tikonov Grand Union had joined two decades before.[2]
The Ariana Fusiliers survived the Age of War and were kept active during the Star League, although only a single regiment was active in 2765. The Chesterton Reserves were largely garrison forces during the Star League era, and while the Chesterton Reserves began to expand as the CCAF enlarged the brigade following the repeal of the Council Edict of 2650 by the Star League Council in 2752, the Ariana Fusiliers remained largely no more skilled than the militias from which the regiment had been raised more than four centuries before.[1]
The various Great Houses would continue to expand their militaries during the Amaris Civil War, and at least one additional Ariana Fusiliers regiment was formed; one of the various Ariana Fusiliers regiments, the First Ariana Fusiliers, would be one of the few Chesterton units to survive into the Third Succession War.[2]
