The Aspropirgos system was the location of at least one habitable world or construct and as of 3145 was located in the Duchy of Andurien.[1][2]

System Description[edit]

The Aspropirgos system is located near the Butzfleth and Fanardir systems.[1][2]

System History[edit]

The Aspropirgos system was colonized prior to the Age of War and was incorporated into the Magistracy of Canopus at some point after the founding of the Magistracy during the twenty-sixth century.[3]

Planetary History[edit]

The Reunification War[edit]

Settled at some point prior to the Age of War,[6] during the Reunification War Aspropirgos became a target for the SLDF invasion of the Magistracy of Canopus during the third year of the military campaign. The Star League Defense Force task force commanded by Captain-General Marion Marik launched their attack on Aspropirgos in September 2580 and while the planetary invasion force was smaller than those used during 2578 and 2579, it still consisted of a complete SLDF brigade - the Fifty-eighth - supported by the Third Marik Militia and the Second Brigade of the Fusiliers of Oriente.[8][51]

Whilst the defending Magistracy Armed Forces units on Aspropirgos managed to sting the invading forces, contesting the invasion, they retreated before the SLDF could mount an effective pursuit, preserving their strength as part of a general refit and rearmament campaign both sides were conducting.[8] The Magistracy of Canopus had 13 worlds annexed by the Free Worlds League, either during the Reunification War[9] or by Star League decree in 2602,[52] and Aspropirgos was one of these worlds.

The Jihad[edit]

During the Jihad the Word of Blake used Aspropirgos as a launching point for operations against the Magistracy of Canopus. On the 29th of June 3073, an attack group drawn from the Magistracy Armed Forces and the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces hit Aspropirgos, targeting the Word of Blake staging grounds. The allied attack group spent 12 days systematically destroying the Blakist facilities along with most of the infantry support for the 41st Shadow Division.[53][54]
