The Badlands system was home to at least one habitable world and as of 2767 was located in the Badlands Cluster within the Dumassas Union of the Taurian Concordat.[1]

System Description[edit]

Located within the Badlands Cluster - which later became known as Pirates Haven - Badlands is located close to Lorkdal and Klenkar.[2][3]

System History[edit]

The Badlands system had been colonized by the end of the Age of War.[2] Inner Sphere nations stopped recording Badlands on maps at some point during the Second Succession War,[4][5] indicating that the system had been abandoned, depopulated, or rendered too insignificant to merit further recording.

Planetary History[edit]

The Star League Defense Force Third Royal Brigade - a part of the First Royal Division within I Corps - was stationed on Badlands in late 2597, as part of the SLDF's occupation of the spinward regions of the Taurian Concordat. One of the units within the Third Royal Brigade was the Forty-third Royal Light Horse Regiment, a regiment notable for having been home to Nicholas Cameron, the only surviving son of First Lord Ian Cameron. Nicholas had served with the Forty-third in the early years of the Reunification War, seeing combat on Wrentham and in the Pleiades Cluster, returning to the Forty-third on promotion after a tour in the headquarters of I Corps, serving first as a company commander and then as a battalion commander. Nicholas was posted out of the Forty-third in June 2583, but in November 2599, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and posted back to the First Royal Division as assistant division commander. Nicholas was visiting the Third Royal Brigade on Badlands as part of a routine visit over the Christmas period of 2599, observing the Third as they attempted to subdue a determined rebel band; while observing the Third conducting combat operations Nicholas twice ended up being injured, once in a battle on the 4th of January by shrapnel that penetrated his 'Mech cockpit, and then again more seriously on the 7th of January when his Rifleman stumbled into an ambush. Nicholas was rescued from the latter engagement by his former company from the Forty-third, but not before his Rifleman had been ruined and he had taken grave injuries - including the loss of his right arm. The battles on Badlands would be Nicholas' last combat actions as a member of the SLDF, as he was ordered to return to Terra to recuperate, and retired from the SLDF on the 1st of June 2600.[39]
