Balkan
System Information
X:Y Coordinates-32.85:85.03[e]

The Balkan system was the location of at least one habitable world and as at 2750 was located in the Virginia Shire region of the Federation of Skye within the Lyran Commonwealth.[1][2]

System Description

The Balkan system lies close to the Komephoros and La Blon systems.[1][2]

System History

The Balkan system was colonised at some point during or shortly before the Age of War, and by the end of that era was a member of the Lyran Commonwealth.[3][4] Balkan vanished from maps during the Third Succession War[5][6] indicating that the system had either been abandoned or depopulated.

Succession Wars

During the darkest days of the Second Succession War the Lyran Commonwealth was losing worlds steadily to both the Draconis Combine and the Free Worlds League, and the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces neared the point of collapse, particularly in the 2860s and 2870s. As the 2870s drew to a close the LCAF regained some of its confidence and launched a number of attempts to recapture some of the worlds that had been lost to the Commonwealth's neighbours, but still couldn't keep pace with the rate at which worlds were being captured. The Combine continued to push towards the important world of Skye, and by 2884 Balkan had been captured along with the worlds of Kessel, Port Moseby, Ryde, Skondia and Vega and the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery was on the verge of being able to threaten Skye directly.[11]

Notes

Balkan is referred to as Balken in House Steiner (The Lyran Commonwealth);[11] the correct spelling was confirmed in Handbook: House Steiner.[5]
