BattleTechWiki:2014 Founder's Awards

2014 Founder's Awards

In the 9 years of the Sarna.net's BattleTechWiki, our community has collectively built something pretty darn amazing. While our year-over-year new article count is slowing down (though there were still 800 new articles in 2014!), the community has focused on curating, editing and improving all of the existing 19,000 articles. As always, I'm extremely impressed and proud of what we've all built together. Special thanks to all of the award winners below for their help. Nicjansma (talk) 18:21, 7 April 2015 (PDT)

2014 Founder's Awards Nominations

Please post your nominations for the various Founder's awards here for discussion. Post not only the Editor's or Admin's name, but also why you feel that person should be the awardee. Nominations will close on the 28th of February, with Nicjansma announcing after he has made his decisions. Negative responses are not solicited, as these are only for nominations.

Five out of the six Founder's Awards are up for nomination; the Founder's Consistent Service Award is completely left up to Nic. The criteria/descriptions of the awards can be found here.

Please post your nominations under the appropriate sub-heading.

Founder's Outstanding Member of the Year Award

from the citation: "awarded...for the previous year's efforts" (overall)
  • BrokenMnemonic:
    • I realize he has been (deservedly) been nominated for the Editor and Writer awards, but I feel comfortable nomination BrokenMnemonic for this award. A few years ago when I joined Sarna, I was somewhat discouraged of a certain lack of quality. I am elated that people like BrokenMnemonic have taken the lead in making Sarna what it is today. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 07:48, 1 February 2015 (PST)
      • Agree. We have around eight editors here on Sarna that I'd call outstanding, but BrokenMnemonic is the one who immediately springs to mind. Frabby (talk) 13:04, 28 February 2015 (PST)

Founder's Superior Editor of the Year Award

from the citation: "awarded...for the previous year's efforts" (in editing)
  • BrokenMnemonic
    • Although I've contributed little this year, I'm still using the site on a regular basis and BrokenMnemonic continues to provide excellent well researched material for this site that is a pleasure to read. Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:45, 21 January 2015 (PST)
      • Seconded; I give my fullest agreement!--Raven 2C (talk) 14:38, 21 January 2015 (PST)
        • Thirtend, or! I don't know what i can say to my friend BM, oh i can ? Okidoki but its so many i can say. Ähm new template body for our Planet Overhaul Project, ähm ah i forgot the sher amount of new individual DropShip, JumpShip, WarShip pages and so on on on on ;).--Doneve (talk) 15:02, 21 January 2015 (PST)
          • Fourthed. -BobTheZombie (talk) 15:17, 25 January 2015 (PST)
            • Fifthed! If that's even a word... But BM gets my nomination anyway! Nuclear-Fridge (talk) 02:40, 29 January 2015 (PST)
  • Doneve
    • Despite what he's been through, I always see him contributing something practically every day! Doneve definitely embodies persistence and dedication, and strives to keep the Sarna wiki a more complete and accurate site.--Raven 2C (talk) 14:38, 21 January 2015 (PST)
      • Seconded -BobTheZombie (talk) 15:17, 25 January 2015 (PST)
        • Third This - Wrangler (talk) 07:17, 26 January 2015 (PST)
          • As a matter of fact, the Admins are discussing if the "Superior Editor of the Year Award" shouldn't be renamed to "Doneve Award". He's just that prolific, with a staggering number of edits and most of the time doing the most thankless and work-intensive tasks. Doneve has practically taken a subscription on this award. Frabby (talk) 13:04, 28 February 2015 (PST)

Founder's Superior Writer of the Year Award

from the citation: "awarded...for the previous year's efforts" (in writing)
  • BrokenMnemonic
    • He's kept up an insane rate of adding new articles and has done a great job in that capacity. -BobTheZombie (talk) 15:17, 25 January 2015 (PST)
      • BrokenMnemonic has my vote, he's doing way more than I've done in recent years. Thanks for the votes guys! -- Wrangler (talk) 06:54, 27 January 2015 (PST)
  • Wrangler
    • Wrangler's earned an honourable mention award here every year for the last five years, and yet despite having been here for at least that long he continues to slog away adding content at a pretty consistent level of enthusiasm. And by pretty consistent I mean "I still have to compete with Wrangler to get a chance to write up WarShip articles." Personally, I think that Wrangler's a good bet for the Consistent Service Award for this year, but if he doesn't bag that one I think he deserves a higher-level award in recognition of his continuing persistence, dedication and enthusiasm. I'm not sure if Superior Writer or Superior Editor is the better fit, because Wrangler cuts across disciplines - he adds new content, adds new articles (particularly when it comes to thigns publihed in TROs) but also engages in bulk editing work like category updates. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 23:52, 26 January 2015 (PST)
      • Seconded, BM found the right words, he is so long with us and vote he become this award this year.--Doneve (talk) 00:22, 27 January 2015 (PST)
      • Third, totally agree. Dark Jaguar (talk) 04:51, 27 January 2015 (PST)
  • ClanWolverine101
    • We have several hardcore writers here, but to me CW stands out as the one person who will most likely be responsible if and when a brand-new, well-researched and big article pops up out of nowhere. He consistently delivers new content on a quality level unsurpassed by anyone else here. Frabby (talk) 13:04, 28 February 2015 (PST)

Founder's Exceptional Ambassador of the Year Award

from the citation: "awarded...to the member who worked the hardest to promote Sarna's existence, strengths and capabilities to other BattleTech communities"
  • BobTheZombie
    • I may grumble about the amount of extra work it causes me, but I think Bob's taken on a herculean and largely thankless task running around various BattleTech communities promoting Sarna and soliciting comments, so it would be churlish of me not to recommend him here. Although I reserve the right to continue grumbling... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 10:33, 21 January 2015 (PST)
      • Definitly seconded.--Doneve (talk) 11:10, 21 January 2015 (PST)
      • Thirded; most deserving indeed!--Raven 2C (talk) 14:38, 21 January 2015 (PST)
        • Fourth; He's here everyday, taking large swath of articles on try make them right. -- Wrangler (talk) 06:51, 27 January 2015 (PST)
          • Fifthed; I see him around, and I can tell by his words and actions that this guy really cares about growing the community and willing it through his enthusiasm to new heights. I know Mbear basically "owns" this award (and for damned good reason!), but BobTheZombie is a good successor to that established legacy. -- Rebs (talk) 07:21, 31 January 2015 (PST)
            • Sixteth (sp?); enough said already. Frabby (talk) 13:04, 28 February 2015 (PST)

Founder's Honorable Mention Award

from the citation: "awarded...to candidates warranting special recognition for the previous year's efforts; awarded to selected nominees of the Outstanding, Superior & Exceptional awards"
  • Nuclear-Fridge:
    • He fix a sher amount of grammars and spellings on various pages, incredible.--Doneve (talk) 05:19, 21 January 2015 (PST)
  • Aldous:
    • During the period he was active here, Aldous put a lot of work into updating a range of articles relating to the Capellan-St. Ives War and Operation: GUERRERO. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 10:26, 21 January 2015 (PST)
  • Cache:
    • Cache has been through and systematically updated a wide range of unit images to higher quality versions and added images that were absent before. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 10:26, 21 January 2015 (PST)
  • Trifler
    • He has contributed a most valuable amount to the MechCommander 2 information effort. Thankfully he has the time to do such things; it wouldn't be at the level of content where it currently is without him!--Raven 2C (talk) 14:43, 21 January 2015 (PST)
  • ClanWolverine101
    • Although he hasn't been around much this year, ClanWolverine101 did add three large character articles and one unit article to Sarna. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:03, 22 January 2015 (PST)
      • Seconded.--Doneve (talk) 04:58, 23 January 2015 (PST)
          • Thirded.--Mbear(talk) 07:20, 27 January 2015 (PST)
  • Cyc
    • This has been another year where Cyc has continued to plug away with edits here at a consistently high standard, despite his Com Guard membership making him a de facto outlaw these days... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:18, 22 January 2015 (PST)
  • Raven 2C
    • Managed to squeak in a fair number of edits while also actively contributing to the video game work on here and helping shut down someone determined to turn the Merkava page into a polemic. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:18, 22 January 2015 (PST)
  • Neuling
    • Neuling's a pretty inspirational guy. Despite having to work outside his first language, he still racked up something in the region of 2,000 edits last year, often plugging away at the kind of boring, nuts and bolts stuff like planet owner history updates and unit composition updates that isn't exciting but is useful. I also think he's sought more feedback here than anyone else on ways he can improve how he contributes here, and he's been slogging away at the same pace for years. Neuling's one of the solid building blocks Sarna's built on. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 09:54, 23 January 2015 (PST)
  • DerangedShadow
    • DerangedShadow has thrown thousands of edits (often putting him at the top of the active user list) at taking out annoying disambiguation pages, and I think he deserves lots of recognition for that tedious and often confusing job. -BobTheZombie (talk) 15:17, 25 January 2015 (PST)
  • Orwell84
    • Orwell84 is with us for a short while, but his high quality contributions special to some Clan pages and character bios are insane.--Doneve (talk) 01:40, 26 January 2015 (PST)
      • Seconded.--Mbear(talk) 07:21, 27 January 2015 (PST)
        • Thirded! His article edits and additions are often an interesting read!--Raven 2C (talk) 07:39, 27 January 2015 (PST)
  • Doneve
    • Wanting to give recognition to Doneve for taking on the monumental task of updating and adding information to the planets pages. Over 3,000 planets and he is taking the time and effort to raise the standards of each of the planet pages. DerangedShadow (talk) 06:46, 26 January 2015 (PST)
  • BrokenMnemonic
    • Wanting to give recognition to BrokenMnemonic for taking on the monumental task of updating and adding information to the planets pages. Over 3,000 planets and he is taking the time and effort to raise the standards of each of the planet pages. DerangedShadow (talk) 06:46, 26 January 2015 (PST)
  • Like in the last year(s), I formally nominate everybody who was nominated for any of the other awards. Besides the aforementioned, that specifically includes (in no particular order) BobTheZombie, Wrangler, and Mbear.
I have to say though that I'm increasingly uncomfortable with this whole award business. I'm always afraid that I might forget to nominate somebody, and really there are more good editors out there than we have awards to give out. In a similar vein, I note we're seeing mostly the same names here year after year. I do not mean to belittle anyone's work here, but the sheer bulk of work both in quantity and quality by the core dozend or so editors here on Sarna makes it very hard for newcomers to shine; I hope that this does not discourage potential new team mebers.
