This project is an extensive, long-term effort to overhaul the planet articles as they were initially created at BattleTechWiki's founding in September 2006. For details will be provided here, as the overhaul approaches its kick-off (at a date to be established).
Collaboration and review
As the planet articles will be almost completely redone and due to the sheer numbers of such an extensive program, extensive collaboration and management will be required, with reviews where necessary.
It is the intent of the overhaul effort to accomplish the revisions by categories of planets (as defined by faction control) through phases of accomplishment of each category. A discussion is currently underway to design the new article template, and once that has been accomplished, the phases will be defined. At this time, a possible example might be this:
- Phase 0: tag every planet article with the Planet Overhaul banner (currently under development)
- Decision Point 1: decide upon which faction to target
- Phase 1: add the new template (with infoboxes) to target articles, copying all relevant material into the appropriate sections and deleting the non-relevant materials
- Phase 2: replacing existing 2-jump map image with specific regional map image
- Phase 3: ?
- Phase 4: ensure faction categorization is correct, matches ownership history
- Return to Decision Point 1
- Check Phase: ensure no planets remain untagged & un-revised
- Final Phase: remove planet tags
