Ben Gerringer was an officer of the Prince's Men.[1]

History[edit]

Born on Ankaa[2] in 3097, he spent his early years being known for his pranks, petty theft, and freewheeling attitude. He bounced from one job to the next until he made the mistake of romancing a nobleman's daughter, and his only way off world was to join the Republic of the Sphere military. Surprisingly, he found a home there.

Though uncouth and despised by the more traditional military students, he excelled academically and gained a following. One of those followers was Gregory Lee. They became fast friends, often admitting themselves to be closer than brothers, Lee always half a step behind Gerringer. When final graduation came, however, Gerringer passed his MechWarrior tests while Lee did not, with Lee blaming Gerringer for his failure and holding a grudge ever since.

Gerringer followed the road less taken when he left the Republic military to sign up with the Prince's Men, where his strange style of leadership found a perfect fit with this ragtag band of misfits, and he quickly made captain.[1]

On the 14th of January 3133, Bannson's Raiders launched a raid on New Rhodes III that forced the Swordsworn to retreat from the planet.[3] The Raiders' attack was a deliberate attempt by Jacob Bannson to test the resolve of Duke Aaron Sandoval.[4]

For that action, Jacob Bannson chose Captain Bart Bradshaw. The defense of New Rhodes III was led by Gerringer. After the initial attack on New Rhodes III, Bradshaw pulled his forces back from Xerxes. He then appeared to commit a classic strategic blunder, splitting his forces in the face of the enemy, but planned to send the smaller force, masquerading as the bulk of his force, to strike at night against one side of Xerxes and then apparently be pushed back, hoping that the defending Swordsworn would be unable to resist leaving their defensive position to pursue the "defeated" Raiders. Part of the Swordsworn took the bait, ignoring Gerringer's orders, and the Raiders' second, stronger force then struck from the opposite direction, securing Xerxes.

Following the assault on the city, a small portion of the remaining Raiders on planet attempted to move toward their grounded Seeker-class DropShip, with which they'd lost contact. On such a dangerous planet and without accurate maps, Bradshaw's force became lost, and the terrible heat quickly began to take its toll. They were spotted by native nomads who contacted the Swordsworn and pledged themselves to help defeat the Raiders. Those natives guided a small contingent of the Swordsworn to attack The Scourge forces.

Having lost the initiative against the Swordsworn, Captain Bradshaw found his forces under an all-out push by the remaining Swordsworn in an effort to secure the Raiders' grounded DropShip.[2]

In the end, the raid was considered a success, which led Bannson to begin planning an expansion throughout the worlds of Prefecture IV.[4]

Gerringer piloted a PNT-10K2 Panther, serial number DC010-73C, which he named Torch.[1]
