Planetary Description

Bensinger is a cold, icy world.

History

Founding

Bensinger was settled by a mixture of artists and craftsmen from Kufstein and Predlitz, technicians from St. John and engineers from New Bergen. This eclectic mix of settlers were refugees fleeing from the Rasalhague Principality as a result of Shiro Kurita's campaign to try and annex this nation during the 2330s-2340s.[1]

Rim Worlds Republic

Bensinger was one of the worlds targetted by Maxwell Rowe during his efforts to build up the Rim Worlds Republic, beginning in 2330; Rowe began by negotiating a series of trade and barter pacts with worlds like Bensinger, carefully avoiding any suggestions of a military alliance, defensive or otherwise. Rowe added offers of social and technological favours including access to new Rim Worlds Republic university facilities over time, and through guile and slow but steady progress persuaded the natives of Bensinger to join the Republic.[2]

Reunification War

By the end of the Age of War Bensinger was a member of the Apollo Province of the Rim Worlds Republic.[3] Civil war erupted in the Rim Worlds Republic in 2575, with the factions polarised around those loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris and those loyal to the Rift Republican Army and the Rim Provisional Government.[4]

The Star League eventually decided to intervene in the civil war in support of Gregory Amaris, and in 2579 assembled Task Force MAILED FIST to help secure Amaris' control over the Rim Worlds Republic. A multinational force headed by the Star League Defense Force, Task Force MAILED FIST was responsible for executing Operation MAILED FIST, the name given to the military intervention. The first wave of attacks focused on securing significant worlds near Apollo,[5] until a destructive raid on Alarion by the 4th Amaris Fusiliers in retaliation prompted the SLDF to alter its initial strategy for the campaign, the focus shifted to reducing Rim Worlds Army concentrations throughout the Republic and the capture of key worlds.[6]

In late 2584 the SLDF changed tactics again; a number of major RWA units had been destroyed or captured, and the focus for the campaign shifted to capturing worlds of strategic importance, but the campaign was slowed by the greatly increased resistance offered by the RWA and local civilian populations, prompted by atrocities performed by the Draconis Auxiliary Corps when they captured Nightwish in mid-2584.[7]

General Nathan Isaacson assigned a division from VI Corps, the Seventeenth Royal Division, along with three regiments from the 2nd Marik Auxiliary Corps - the Second and Sixth Marik Militias and the First Brigade of the Fusiliers of Oriente - to the conquest of Bensinger in 2594. The Star League forces successfully took control of Bensinger,[8] defeating the local militia forces, and remained in place as the local garrison until the Seventeenth and the FWLM regiments were redeployed for the invasions of Taran's World and Crellacor in 2595.[9]

Star League Era

Bensinger was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773-2775 Republic-Commonwealth war.[10]

Clan Invasion

The Jade Falcons assaulted Bensinger during Operation REVIVAL. The system was defended by the Seventh Regiment of the 12th Star Guards mercenary unit. The mercenaries were engaged in wargames and were unable to participate in the main defense of the world. The Falcons eventually hunted down all the mercenaries and killed them.[11]

On April 3055, the landing was terrible for the Viper Fusiliers. Disorganized and in the hair cross of the awaiting 305th Assault Cluster, the Vipers were on the edge of the collapse, but that not happen. Even with nearly 25% loses they turned the fight in their favor. The Falcon force was so badly positioned that they had to fire on their on comrades before reaching the enemy.[12]

Jihad

In 3071 Clan Ice Hellion launched an invasion of the Jade Falcon Occupation Zone, and Bensinger was one of the worlds captured during 3071 by the Hellions. The Hellions wouldn't hold Bensinger for long, however; in early November, forces from Clan Hell's Horses attacked several worlds that had been captured by the Hellions, including Bensinger, forcing the Hellions to give up some of their conquests.[13][14]
