The Borgan's Rift system was home to at least one habitable world, Borgan's Rift II, and as of 3145 was located in the Magistracy of Canopus.[2][3]

System Description[edit]

Borgan's Rift is located near the Early Dawn and Fanardir systems.[2][3]

System History[edit]

The Borgan's Rift system was settled at some point during the Age of War.[4][5]

Borgan's Rift II, more commonly known simply as Borgan's Rift, is the second planet in the Borgan's Rift system.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

During the Reunification War, Borgan's Rift became a target for the Star League Defense Force invasion of the Magistracy of Canopus during the fourth year of the military campaign. The SLDF task force commanded by Captain-General Marion Marik launched their attack on Borgan's Rift in September 2581 and while the planetary invasion force was smaller than those used during 2578 and 2579, it still consisted of a complete SLDF brigade—the Fifty-eighth—supported by the 402nd Independent Regiment and the Third Marik Militia.[7][48]

Two mercenary regiments were defending Borgan's Rift at the time, Kincani's Dragoons and The Red Hand, and following the pattern used by the defending Magistracy Armed Forces units on Aspropirgos and Gallis the year before, the mercenaries stung the invading forces enough to contest the invasion and then retreated before the SLDF could mount an effective pursuit, preserving their strength as part of a general refit and rearmament campaign both sides were conducting.[7]

Star League[edit]

During the final years of the Star League, Borgan's Rift was the host to a SLDF garrison.[49]

Succession Wars[edit]

In the thirty-first century, Borgan's Rift was suffering from the crippling of interstellar economies and dramatic technological decline that characterized the Succession Wars. Up until 3040, Borgan's Rift was regularly pillaged by pirates and economically stagnant. Eventually Borgan's Rift was sold to Shanti Magliss of Magliss Spirits who built warehouses and distribution centers all over the planet, yet the pirate attacks continued.[1]

FedCom Civil War[edit]

In mid-3067, Borgan's Rift was one of a number of planets in the region to be an active battlefield. Capellan Confederation Armed Forces were patrolling the system, with at least one JumpShip and DropShip deployed in the system; Borgan's Rift was one of a number of border systems that the Magestrix had given the Capellans permission to conduct random patrols in. By mid-July the fighting had reached Old Port Town, the site of a largely disused DropPort that had been a major DropPort until the construction of a major new DropPort in Crescent City had reduced Old Port Town to a backup facility and the local community to a relative ghost town.[50]

The Jihad[edit]

Following the firebombing of the city of Crimson on Canopus IV, the Blakist Forty-first Shadow Division launched a series of attacks on other worlds within the Magistracy of Canopus between 3071[51] and 3073.[52] The Forty-first's rampage hit Bass before moving on to hit Lindenmarle, Megarez, Adherlwin and finally Borgan's Rift;[51] the Forty-first was then caught and hammered by a joint Canopian-Capellan task force in the Aspropirgos system in Free Worlds League space, ending their rampage.[51][52] During the Blakist campaign against the Magistracy the various Canopian military academies were specifically targeted, with the Canopian Institute of War on Canopus IV being destroyed along with the provincial academies on a number of worlds including Borgan's Rift.[53]
