Brank
System Information
X:Y Coordinates-462.40 : 290.92[e]

The Brank system was home to at least one habitable world and as at 3145 was located in the bandit kingdom known as the Rim Territories.[1][2]

System Description

The Brank system is located near the Chita and Veil systems.[3][4][1][2]

System History

The Brank system was originally known as the Edirne system, and was either colonised at some point during or shortly before the Age of War, or was an already-inhabited system that was incorported into the Rim Worlds Republic during this period and which was considered significant enough to have its location recorded by Inner Sphere nations.[5][6]

Edirne became an independent system after the Republic-Commonwealth War[7][8] and subsequently vanished from maps during the Third Succession War, having either been abandoned, depopulated or rendered too insignificant to merit further recording.[9][10][11]

Edirne reappeared on maps at some point during the Dark Age as a member of the Rim Territories; at this point, the Rim Territories counted a number of other former Rim Worlds Republic systems with new names as members.[12][13]

Planetary History

Reunification War

By the end of the Age of War Brank was a member of the Finmark Province of the Rim Worlds Republic.[6] In 2575, one of the closing years of the Age of War, civil war erupted in the Rim Worlds Republic, with the factions polarised around those loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris and those loyal to the Rift Republican Army and the Rim Provisional Government.[35]

The Star League eventually decided to intervene in the civil war in support of Gregory Amaris, and in 2579 assembled Task Force MAILED FIST to help secure Amaris' control over the Rim Worlds Republic. A multinational force headed by the Star League Defense Force, Task Force MAILED FIST was responsible for executing Operation MAILED FIST, the name given to the military intervention. The first wave of attacks focused on securing significant worlds near Apollo,[36] until a destructive raid on Alarion by the 4th Amaris Fusiliers in retaliation prompted the SLDF to alter its initial strategy for the campaign, the focus shifted to reducing Rim Worlds Army concentrations throughout the Republic and the capture of key worlds.[37]

In late 2584 the SLDF changed tactics again; a number of major RWA units had been destroyed or captured, and the focus for the campaign shifted to capturing worlds of strategic importance, but the campaign was slowed by the greatly increased resistance offered by the RWA and local civilian populations, prompted by atrocities performed by the Draconis Auxiliary Corps when they captured Nightwish in mid-2584.[38]

Archon Viola Steiner-Dinesen of Battle Group Finmark assigned the Thirty-Second Division - one of two divisions that made up the SLDF VIII Corps - to the conquest of of Edirne in 2589. Edirne lacked any major regular units from the RWA and was successfully conquered by the Thirty-Second, who remained on the planet until they were redeployed for the conquest of Zertarum in 2592.[39]

Notes

It was confirmed that Edirne and Brank were one and the same by the Catalyst Game Labs writing staff.
