The Bright Sun was a DropShip destroyed during efforts by the Shinonoi government to divert the trajectory of the asteroid designated SH017378-A from its path in July 3075. The asteroid was on a collision course with the planet and the Bright Sun was involved in what was at least the second attempt to divert the path of the asteroid; the initial effort involved mounting remote thrusters onto the asteroid, an effort which failed. The Bright Sun was involved in a subsequent effort to adjust the asteroid's path using her thrusters, but was destroyed in the effort. All of the government efforts to adjust the asteroid's path failed, and the resulting impact devastated the planet.[1]
