The Bucklands system was home to at least one habitable world, Bucklands IV, and as at 3145 was the administrative capital of the Bucklands Province within the Lyran Commonwealth.[2][3]

System Description

The Bucklands system is located near the Neerabup and Willunga systems[2][3] and consists of a class K3V primary orbited by at least four planets.[1]

System History

The Bucklands system was at some point during or prior to the Age of War and was a member of the Rim Worlds Republic prior to the Reunification War.[4]

Bucklands IV

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Bucklands IV - more commonly known simply as Bucklands - is the fourth planet in the Bucklands system.[1]

Planetary History

Reunification War

Already a part of the Finmark Province of the Rim Worlds Republic, during the Reunification War Bucklands was targeted by Task Force MAILED FIST, the Star League Defense Force task force created to intervene in the civil war raging within the Republic. By 2582 the Rim Worlds Republic had been in a state of civil war for seven years, and Bucklands was garrisoned by the Second Amaris Fusiliers, a formation that had remained loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris. The Star League had initiated Operation MAILED FIST in mid-2581, but the SLDF plans had been forced to change after a deep raid by the one of the Second's sister regiments, the Fourth Amaris Fusiliers, had managed to strike at the Lyran Commonwealth interior world of Alarion.[5][5]

The result was the reorganization of the SLDF forces and their auxiliaries into three battlegroups, each responsible for the pacification of one of the three provinces that made up the Rim Worlds Republic.[6] Bucklands and the Second Fusiliers were the first targets of the battlegroup assigned to pacifying the Finmark Province, and the SLDF deployed VIII Corps - which actually consisted of two divisions, the Thirty-First Armor Division and the Thirty-Second Division at the time, but was still predominantly an infantry corps - to the battle for Bucklands.[7]

VIII Corps planners thought that Buckland's broad plains would give them an advantage over the Rim Worlds Republic military forces stationed on the world. This proved incorrect, as the light armor forces within the Second Fusiliers proved very adept at evading SLDF patrols, repeatedly slipping past patrols and pickets to strike at weak points within the SLDF positions. The sheer tenacity displayed by the Rim Worlds defenders - a unit the SLDF was notionally supporting with their campaign to restore Gregory Amaris to power - was a shock for VIII Corps, whose infantry-heavy forces frequently found themselves on the retreat despite the numerical advantage the SLDF enjoyed on paper. The net result was an indication of what the SLDF would find happening on numerous other worlds within the Republic - an extended seven month campaign before Bucklands was pacified and the defending forces finally broken.[6]

Star League

In the closing years of the Star League Bucklands was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773-2775 Republic-Commonwealth War.[8] After it was absorbed by the Lyran Commonwealth, Bucklands became an important agricultural world. The farms and agricultural businesses on the planet exported food to many surrounding systems. The downside of this was that most farms were owned by families organized into small clans that constantly bickered over the best land, water rights, and harvests. These arguments could often be negotiated peacefully, but in several cases negotiations broke down. In order to prevent damage to the farmlands, the two parties in the dispute would take their security teams and fight to solve the problem. Taking place in designated free-fire zones, these conflicts often involved converted AgroMechs. Though many people in the Inner Sphere though these duels were far too much like Clan behavior, the duels were used to settle issues on Bucklands since 2900. Unlike Solaris, there wasn't really any market for holovids of these fights.[1]

Bucklands was also noteworthy for its other major export: soldiers. Looking at the back end of an AgroMech or horse and plowing fields wasn't exactly a thrilling life, so many young people joined the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces to see the rest of the universe. After serving their enrollment terms, many of these retired soldiers returned to Bucklands and joined one of the many retirement clubs on the world.[1]

Clan Invasion Era

When word of the Falcon Incursion reached Bucklands, many of those retired soldiers welded armor plate onto their IndustrialMechs and announced their intention to face the Falcons. Unfortunately an up-gunned Uni or AgroMech was no match for a Summoner or Hellbringer and the volunteers were destroyed by the Third Falcon Talon Cluster.[9]
