Tactics?

Is Tactics the right word? Combat Maneuvers or Combat Moves would probably be more accurate. Frabby 16:23, 28 September 2008 (CDT)

Tactics works for me, but "CBT" is wrong. 'Mech jockeys did the same things in the Star League era and do the same things in the Dark Age era. --Ebakunin 23:01, 28 September 2008 (CDT)
CBT refers to the board game, not any specific era. That said, still out of place considering for example Alpha strike is more clicky orientated than CBT themed. Cyc 01:15, 29 September 2008 (CDT)
I was going for brevity. I think "volley fire" is a tactic, while "DFA" is more of a maneuver, so perhaps these two articles should not be in the same category. That said, all three of the things that are currently in the category are things you can do in CBT. The meaning of an alpha strike remains the same no matter the game, it's just that it has actual game effect in DoA and is a CCG card. Perhaps the article should be split up for the different games, but that discussion would be better suited on the talk page of the article in question. --Scaletail 19:26, 29 September 2008 (CDT)
Why complicate things further? We could just use BattleMech Tactics and have a "Game play" section when relevant. That solve all the issues. --Ebakunin 09:49, 30 September 2008 (CDT)
I like Ebakunin's proposal. Frabby 10:42, 30 September 2008 (CDT)
I don't understand your proposal. Could you please explain it more thoroughly? --Scaletail 19:02, 30 September 2008 (CDT)
Create a category called BattleMech Tactics. Apply it to any "tactics" or "maneuvers" involving 'Mechs, from alpha strike to Death from Above. For tactics that can be explained in gaming terms include a "Game play" section. This should include most entries, though there will be some exceptions (like the infamous trick that Joanna used to finish off the Black Widow). The idea is to keep the category simple and flexible for both readers and editors. --Ebakunin 00:14, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
Are you talking about creating an additional category or renaming this one? --Scaletail 19:30, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
Renaming this category. --Ebakunin 20:11, 1 October 2008 (CDT)
I would argue, then, that that name has the same problems as "CBT Tactics." Can an aerospace fighter not make an alpha strike, or utilize volley fire (I ask this question genuinely, as I do not play with aerospace units)? Yes, DFA is 'Mech-only, so that I can understand. Should we go more general and use "Game Tactics"? --Scaletail 21:25, 2 October 2008 (CDT)
Good point. I would go with something like BattleTech Tactics, which would cover maneuvers that can be interpreted in game terms (like alpha strike) that can be done many types of BattleTech, whether 'Mechs or tanks. It would also cover tactics that don't directly translate into gaming rules (like attacking your opponent with your jump jets while lying prone on the ground—see Joanna comment above :-) --Ebakunin 01:40, 3 October 2008 (CDT)
Actually, there are rules for it. They were in Max Tech, so I assume they've made it into Tac Ops. What would be the advantage of renaming "CBT" "BattleTech" in the title of this category? --Scaletail 08:00, 4 October 2008 (CDT)
