Major General Chu-hau Ling was the commander of the Star League Defense Force's 229th Mechanized Infantry Division as of 2764.[1]

Born on Terra and a Terran Hegemony citizen, the 229th Mechanized's posting on New Syrtis exposed Ling to the racist attitudes common in the Capellan March, with local AFFS and political leadership treating him as a potential Capellan Confederation spy.
Star League Intelligence Command had investigated Ling, clearing him of any suspicion, and he was considered by the SLDF to be a committed and reliable officer. SLDF command was therefore reluctant to transfer Ling, though they thought it may become necessary if the public reaction to him on New Syrtis worsened any further.[1]
