The Corey system was home to at least one habitable world, Corey III, and as at 3145 was located in the Sarna Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[2][3]

System Description

The Corey system is located near the Elnath and Yunnah systems[2][3] and consists of a class M1V primary orbited by at least three planets. During the thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the zenith jump point.[1]

System History

The Corey system was settled at some point during the Star League era after the end of the Reunification War.[4][5]

Corey III

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Corey III - more commonly known simply as Corey - is the third planet in the system and has hosted facilities operated by the noted defense contractor Hollis Incorporated.[1]

Planetary History

First Succession War

Having secured a number of worlds from the remains of the Terran Hegemony, Captain-General Kenyon Marik deployed ten regiments from the Marik Militia brigade to launch an invasion of the Capellan Confederation; their goal was to "clear a route ten parsecs wide to Sarna." Both Corey and Wazan fell quickly to the Marik Militia forces, with few of the Capellan garrisons offering much resistance.[6]

Chancellor Barbara Liao was unwilling to cede control of the worlds easily, however; she launched a counterattack against the world of New Delos, which was a Free Worlds League Military staging area, and put blockades in place over both the Corey and Wazan systems, as well as ordering an attack on Calloway VI in 2780. These efforts were despite Kenyon Marik ordering his forces to conduct attacks that saw the worlds of Hall, Ingersoll, New Canton and Outreach firebombed in retaliation for the New Delos attack and in an effort to disrupt the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces efforts to send reinforcements to Corey and Wazan.[6]

The Capellan siege of both Corey and Wazan ended when FWLM forces in the Calloway system detected and ambushed the Capellan forces attempting to launch their attack, leading to several years where the war went almost completely in favor of House Marik.[6]

Fourth Succession War

Following the lull in major offensives in early 3029, a number of new offensives began as the Fourth Succession War entered its second year. The AFFS forces on the Capellan front did their best to rest and resupply during the lull, anticipating a return to combat operations; orders for the fifth wave of Operation RAT were received in late April, and large-scale invasions of the Capellan Confederation began again.[7] Stripped of JumpShips to form a command chain for Operation INTRUDERS COMMUNION, few of the front-line forces within the Sarna Commonality were able to respond to the fresh wave of attacks. The Twentieth Avalon Hussars were assigned to the invasion of Corey, and the remaining defenders on the planet could do little to stop them. The biggest problem encountered by the Hussars was a mechanical failure on the Star Lord-class JumpShip FSS Orkney on arriving in the system, a failure that flooded the engineering sections of the JumpShip with poisonous gas and forced the attached Dropships to perform emergency detachments due the the risk of an explosion. After the Orkney was saved by an act of heroism, the battle for control of Corey was positively anticlimatic by comparison.[8]

The Dark Age

The Hollis Incorporated plant on Corey was apparently raided by troops from the Oriente Protectorate in 3125; the raiders assaulted the plant by making rapid air drops that deployed BattleMechs around the factory and squads of Xiphos battle armor directly into the plant. Those defending the plant were swiftly dispatched and the raiders made off with tons of spare parts for Catapult 'Mechs when they fled the system.[9]

In the mid-3140s it came to light that the raiders who struck at Hollis Incorporated in 3125 weren't actually from the Oriente Protectorate; instead, files accidentally released during the dissolution of the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth revealed that the raiders had actually been elements of the Eighth Free Worlds Legionnaires, who had travelled clandestinely through Oriente Protectorate space while deliberately wearing the colors of the Protectorate.[9]
