The Diik system was home to at least one habitable world, Diik III, and as at 3145 was located in the Calderon Protectorate.[2][3]

System Description

The Diik system is located close to the Gaul and Oscar systems[2][3] and consists of a class G7V primary orbited by at least three planets.[1]

System History

The Diik system was colonized in the mid-thirty-first century by the Taurian Concordat.[4][5]

Diik III

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Diik III - more commonly known simply as Diik or Damned If I Know[6] is the third planet in the system.[1]

Planetary History

Early History

When originally colonized, Diik attracted primarily those settlers of an independent nature, such as hunters, trappers, loners, and explorers, but by 3079, new and more socially-minded colonists had begun arriving.[1]

Calderon Protectorate Secession

When Baron Cham Kithrong led four worlds to form the secessionist Calderon Protectorate in late 3066, Diik remained on the sidelines until Kithrong held a media interview in which he explained his reasons for forming the Protectorate in December of that year. The interview prompted Diik and three neighboring worlds to join the Protectorate,[7] with the military production factories on the planet becoming an important part in keeping the military of the fledgling Protectorate going.[8]

Jihad

In the wake of the Jihad, the factories on Diik continued to produce RetroTech BattleMechs and AeroSpace Fighters at a respectable rate; the majority of this production went to the Protectorate's military forces, but the Protectorate also sold excess production to both the Fronc Reaches and the Filtvelt Coalition. In addition to the equipment sold to the two nearby Periphery realms, the Fiefdom of Randis also bought small quantities of the Star Dagger aerospace fighter for their own local defense forces.[9]

Dark Age

In 3105 the mercenary unit Clean Kill arrived covertly on Diik. The Clean Kill were in the employ of the Taurian Concordat at the time and had arrived clandestinely to conduct raids; for months, the Clean Kill managed to evade detection while striking at Protectorate targets. The Clean Kill were finally tracked down when Captain Jere MalDonaldo of the Protectorate military assembled an entire regiment of battle armor-equipped infantry using Spectre suits manufactured at the nearby Protectorate Arms Conglomerate plant. MalDonaldo passed the location of the Clean Kill to the Second Taurian Pride, but then rather than fading out and waiting for the arrival of the Pride, MalDonaldo had his troops infiltrate the Clean Kill encampment and launch a surprise attack.[10]

The opening wave of the attack by the Protectorate forces was very successful, killing the a large part of the Clean Kill's command and support staffs, but as the Clean Kill's defenses tried to react to the sudden attack MalDonaldo was killed by a Clean Kill Locust. The loss of MalDonaldo shattered the ad hoc Protectorate formation, most of whom were gunned down by the Clean Kill before the Second Taurian Pride arrived and routed the mercenaries.[10]
