History

The Dismal Disinherited formed after the First Succession War from former Capellan Confederation Armed Forces soldiers with roots in the Star League Defense Force. The Dismal Disinherited formed from the Eighth and Ninth Andurien Hussars, two regiments that had been mustered by the CCAF between 2784 and 2785 using personnel recruited from the 133rd Jump Infantry Division and the Third French Infantry Regiment.[1][2] The CCAF hunted the new mercenary unit, which found a safe haven in the Free Worlds League. The brigade maintained its strength through the two decades long heavy fighting through the addition of family members and soldiers who left Free Worlds League Military service.

The brigade went to work for the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces after their contract with the League expired, subsequently working for the Federated Commonwealth and later the Federated Suns. In 3050 the entire brigade was assigned to the Federated Commonwealth's Qanatir Command along the Lyran/Free Worlds League border.[3]

The Second Regiment had been stationed on Tall Trees in 3067, but shipped to Outreach after the Blakist assault on Wolf's Dragoons in October; the Second regiment arrived during November. The Second Regiment (erroneously reported as the First Regiment in some cases[4]) then participated in the Allied Mercenary Command's disastrous assault on Mars in 3067 as part of Task Force Vengeance and was reported to have been destroyed along with the other elements of the Task Force on the 8th of December.[5] The First Regiment joined the defenders called up on Outreach after the first Blakist attack, only to be destroyed by the Word of Blake when they retaliated for the attack on Mars.[4]

Burton's Brigade had been mauled on Hall during the transfer of Hall into the Free Worlds League and subsequently the command dissolved with the death of Elly Burton, commanding officer of Burton's Brigade. The survivors from Burton's Brigade merged into the Third Dismal Disinherited.[4] The Third Regiment participated in an AMC attack on Talitha on 8 December 3069, together with the survivors from Burton's Brigade,[6] but were overpowered by the Blakists and their mercenary forces; the Third was destroyed before it could escape from the planet.[4]

The destruction of the Dismal Disinherited was confirmed in 3081.[7]

Support

The brigades's support structure has the ability to meet all the Brigade's technical demands. The technical staff are highly skilled in the repair of the worst damage imaginable. The common soldiers can act as astechs to free up the techs for the important repairs. The unit has access to DropShips and JumpShips.

One of the JumpShips operated by the Dismal Disinherited, the Invader-class Star Burner, was purchased from the Federated Suns in the aftermath of the Fourth Succession War. The Star Burner was a ship on which a number of the original members of the Dismal Disinherited had served before they left Capellan service to form the mercenary brigade.[9]
