The Dragon's Field system was home to at least one habitable world, and as of 3025 was located in Federated Suns space.[2]

System Description

The Dragon's Field system is located within a single jump of the Stein's Folly system,[3] i.e. within some 30 light-years, and consists of a class M0 primary orbited by at least two planets.[1] The Dragon's Field system featured a deep space station (possibly a recharging station) that was apparently open to traders during the thirty-first century.[4]

Planetary History

Dragon's Field is the innermost planet of a M0 dwarf star system[1] situated within one jump (i.e. no more than 30 light years) from Stein's Folly.[3] The system's zenith and nadir jump points are ca. 0.7 AU above and below the sun, respectively, and the planet is reached in around thirty hours transit time at 1g acceleration/deceleration.

As of 3025, Dragon's Field was used as a staging area for House Davion troops bound to recapture Stein's Folly. In a staff meeting of Federated Suns officers it was described as being "nearest" to the objective, i.e. the Stein's Folly system; also, it was mentioned that the planet was surrounded by a cloud blanket which was expected to shield much of the activity from enemy probes or spyships.[2]

Notes

In the German edition of the novel, Dragon's Field was replaced by Novaya Zemlya, with the description (inner planet of a M0 system) remaining the same. However, Novaya Zemlya has since been established as the fourth planet around a G2IV class sun in canonical sources (Handbook: House Davion, Objectives: Federated Suns) which trump the German edition of the novel. The different sun classes given rule out the possibility that they might be the first and fourth planet of the same system.
