Ellen Davion (b. 2425 - d. 2510) was the Eleventh First Prince of the Federated Suns.[1][2]

Character History

Early Years and Her family's Assassination

Daughter of Simon Davion and Elizabeth Caldwell, she grew up in the shadows of her father and brothers. She would try to keep out of the public light, where she acted as aide to the Draconis March during the reign her brother James.[3]

Her bother would live double life, while being great leader, his personal life would taint him and nickname him the Dark Prince. Her life would change abundantly when Prince James would end up being assassinated by his enemies he had gained during his rein, which would leave her crippled while her almost entire family would end be left dead.[4]

The Political Battle for Control of the Federated Suns

With her family dead, her other brother's unborn son being only other heir, she chose to fight keep her family position in control of the Federated Suns.

Richard Varney, Chancellor of New Avalon and Constable of the Crucis March, would be come her political rival as she debated her case to the High Council. She would need over come the Varney's slander against her, with her lack of military and political experience. Being labeled the "Lady of the Wheelchair". She needed over come the Council's conservative lending. Initially, the council wished to name her's late brother Roger's unborn child as heir, while trying to decide whom should be part of a regency rule while they waited for future Prince William comes to age. The ambitious Prince Richard Varney lobbied hard to be named First Prince and was aggressive to trying to gain the throne. However, his slander would work against him in council's eyes. The High Council would have nagging fears of Varney sparking a civil war.

My Lords of the Council, I am the sister of James Davion. but I have never been accused of uncontrolled lust. I am the daughter of Simon Davion, but I have never been accused of murder. I will be the aunt of a new Davion heir, one with the training and the legitimacy you claim that I lack. Let me show you that I can fulfill the needs of this high office."

After battling Varney in various political arenas, she would successfully lobbied the High Council to promote her to First Prince, with provisions that Roger Davion's child would be designated Heir-Apparent.[5][6]

Rule as First Princess of the Federated Suns

Ellen ascendance to the throne would prove to be boon for Federated Suns. After a string of bad rulers and tyrants, her rulership would return respectability to throne in view of the citizenry. Despite lack of political skills, her integrity and commonsense would help her in her rulership.

During her first five years of rule, she would remove Richard Varney from Chancellor and Constable and promote him as political move to Prince of the Capellan March. In doing so, to allow her government to keep eye on her political rival, but would sow for troubles for the Federated Suns in the generations to come.

The crowing achievement of her reign would be the Act of Succession of 2473. Approved by High Council of House Davion, this would give Davin family permanent tenure over the Crucis March and entire Federated Suns.

Her reign would last thirty years until her retirement in 2502, when she would turn over reigns of the nation to 32 year old nephew, William. Before doing so, she would dispatch him on tour of the realm in 2500 where he would get feel of the nation. On his return in 2502, he would turn over rulership to him in small ceremony.[7]
