History
The Emerald Talon was a Nightlord-class battleship built for Clan Jade Falcon and which served for some years as the flagship of Emerald Talon Assault Naval Star. The Emerald Talon and the other ships of the Star participated in Operation REVIVAL, where it forced the surrender of Zoetermeer in late 3050.[1]
The Emerald Talon continued to serve in the Clan Jade Falcon touman throughout the 3050s[2] and 3060s,[3] and was one of the ships within the diminished Jade Falcon fleet to survive the intense combat of the Jihad.[4]
In 3134, a small task force of Clan Jade Falcon, escorted by the Emerald Talon, launched an attack against the Republic of the Sphere after traveling first through Commonwealth space. The task force, ostensibly aimed at destroying what the Falcons termed the false wolves, pledged not to attack the Lyran state, but then landed attack forces on Porrima and Chaffee. Chaffee, was completely overrun, and it was there that Falcon forces slaughtered 50,000 inhabitants in the city of Hamilton—a savage and heavy-handed action that has outraged billions across the Inner Sphere and prompted calls for war against Jade Falcon.
The Hamilton Massacre came to light soon after the liberation of Chaffee by the Stormhammers, a pro-Commonwealth faction within The Republic of the Sphere, who acted in conjunction with the Steel Wolves to rout Jade Falcon there last November. Whether the successful campaign was accomplished with the direct support of the Commonwealth government remains unclear at this time, but it has become a rallying cry for many who feel the current administration is failing to deal with the more immediate threat Jade Falcon represents, even as tensions mount on Republican and League borders.[5]
The Emerald Talon would remain in service well into the thirty-second century. During this time, it was part of the Jade Falcon invasion of the Republic of the Sphere, where it supported the attack on Skye. In the Falcons' second Battle for Skye, the ship fought the Lyran Mjolnir-class battlecruiser LCS Yggdrasil in a brutal duel in December of 3134. The Emerald Talon received a considerable amount of damage and was ultimately forced to withdraw from Skye.[6]
Defeated at Skye, the Emerald Talon returned to the Jade Falcon Occupation Zone where it took part in the Jade Falcon Civil War. The Emerald Talon served as part of Malvina Hazen's forces and was ultimately crippled by the Aegis-class heavy cruiser CJF Jade Talon in the final battle of the war over Sudeten. Afterwards, Khan Hazen ordered the Emerald Talon be crashed into the Sudeten capital city of Hammarr as an object lesson to the Clan. His captain obeyed, though he ordered before the remaining crew's evacuation, staying on board. The WarShip crashed into the Talon's Perch, eliminating most of the Clan's leadership structure, along with almost all Hammarr.[7][8]
The Talon impact razed the capital, and it took decades to be rebuilt. During the process, some fragments of the crashed WarShip were unearthed and salvaged, incorporating them into building designs.[9]
