The FireStalion {sic; see Notes} was an aerodyne DropShip in service to the Oberon Confederation (it is repeatedly referred to as "pirate DropShip") as of 3049 under captain Karen Yorta.[1] While no specific class is given, context and its depiction in the MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries game including its dimensions relative to the BattleMechs strongly suggest it is meant to be a Leopard-class vessel.

History

When Clan Wolf forces overran Sigurd in November of 3049, the FireStalion was the last Oberon Confederation vessel to leave the planet. On or around 6 December 3049[2] captain Karen Yorta returned to the surface from high orbit despite the ship being badly damaged, to pick up some stragglers who had broken out of a prison camp.[3] These stragglers included (and were led by) the commanding officer and sole remaining member of the Team Venom mercenary unit (tentatively identified as Grady Kiefer). The mercenaries had been on a pirate hunting mission on Sigurd when they encountered, and were captured by, Clan Wolf forces.

The FireStalion escaped on an Oberon Confederation JumpShip that carried it to the Free Rasalhague Republic, where the JumpShip was boarded and the crew arrested and then executed for piracy. (The Oberon Confederation had reportedly murdered the inhabitants of Last Hope on New Caledonia more than a year ago, earning the ire of the Free Rasalhague Republic.) The DropShip FireStalion was not mentioned in the news covering this, and its fate is uncertain.

Canonicity

Featuring only in the narrative of the MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries computer game, the FireStalion is apocryphal.

Notes

  • In the only instance where its name is spelled out,[4] the DropShip is named "FireStalion" (spelled with only one "l"), an apparent misspelling that may or may not be its actual name.
