Reunification War

Flintoft was attacked by the SLDF in March 2581 as part of the Reunification War. The SLDF's First Battle Fleet arrived as a Taurian Defense Force fleet was delivering fireships to the system. The Taurians deployed the fireships, and the SLDF Navy lost sixteen WarShips. The Taurians lost nine WarShips, at least twenty DropShips, and over a hundred fireships. Despite these losses the SLDF's 2nd Division and 3rd Division landed in late March along Flintoft's industrial belt. Located in the Copper River Valley, the two Divisions came under attack by over three hundred conventional fighter aircraft. After suffering through bombing and strafing attacks, the SLDF eventually established air superiority. By July 31st, the SLDF controlled the Copper River Valley, but securing the rest of the world took another eleven months.[40]

Jihad

Flintoft was one of the first worlds to be hit during Operation MATADOR, the AFFS counteroffensive against the Taurian Concordat. The first Federated Suns forces dropped onto Flintoft on the 5th of May 3080, with the BattleMechs of the Davion Assault Guards and 1st Syrtis Fusiliers leading the way. Under the command of General Marguerite McCaffee the Assault Guards dropped alongside the Syrtis Fusiliers to establish the first beachhead on the planet under cover of AFFS AeroSpace Fighters and Pocket WarShips, including Arondight-class DropShips. The assault began with co-ordinated attacks by AFFS fighters to take control of the skies over Flintoft while key C2 networks on the surface were hit by orbital bombardment. This was followed by the Assault Guards and Syrtis Fusiliers combat drop, which was in turn quickly followed by an entire regiment of jump capable Battle Armor, also deploying via combat drop. With the 'Mech and Battle Armor forces securing a beachhead, additional conventional forces quickly followed. The initial assault on Flintoft was covered by the Federated Suns News Service whose embedded journalist, Peter Remonde, covered the combat drop and assault from the jump seat of General McCaffee's Atlas.[41]
