The Gatchina system was home to at least one habitable world and as of 3152 was located in the Free Worlds League.[1]

System Description[edit]

The Gatchina system is located near the Negushevo and Bayindir systems and is Rimward and Anti-spinward from Terra.[1]

System History[edit]

The Gatchina system was colonized sometime before 2571 when it first appeared on star charts within the Free Worlds League.[2]

Planetary Info[edit]

Gatchina is a near desert world with little moisture. One first-time visitor would describe the feeling of having the air take all the moisture from his body when he first left his DropShip. The terrain was a fusion of desert heat and rocky tundra. Rain falls were rare and short lived. Yet the planet was populated by a hearty group of farmers dedicated to building a life on this world. Their technological resources were limited though with reports of animal drawn carts being used to transport visitors from the DropPort.[34]

Planetary History[edit]

Star League[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

Gatchina served as a minor supply depot for the SLDF for missions into the Magistracy of Canopus during the Reunification War.[34]

Reign of the Star League[edit]

After the end of the Reunification War, the SLDF base on world would continue to grow until it supported a large SLDF garrison.[34]

During the final years of the Star League, Gatchina was located next to many star lanes used by pirates. The resident SLDF garrison was kept busy hunting down these opponents until they were reassigned to the Periphery in 2765.[35][34]

Post Star League[edit]

After the fall of the Star League, not much of galactic importance occurred on Gatchina. Other than the occasional pirate raid, and there were few of those, Gatchina was largely left to its own devices for several hundred years.[34]

Jihad[edit]

With the dissolution of the Free Worlds League, the Word of Blake damaging the planet's HPG before they fled for parts unknown and a steep population decline due to people fleeing for the nearby Rim Commonality starting in the 3070s, Gatchina was becoming more lawless and abandoned by the end of the Jihad.[34]

Republic Age[edit]

By 3083, a business magnate, Harald Lars, has seized every single water refinery, desalinization plant and power station on Gatchina. He also drained every water reservoir and shipped all drinkable water away from the populace and their farms. The locals called him the "Water Baron" as he controlled all the water on world, charged them extravagant amounts for drinking water and was effectively the planetary government as everyone else in power had fled the world. The situation forced the local population to hire the mercenary unit, Linden's Liberators, to help remove Lars from power. There they found that Harald Lars was using the proceeds from the water to pay protection money to pirates threatening the planet's remaining assets. As the pirates kept asking for more, Harald had to keep raising the prices and eventually offering slaves to keep the pirates from destroying everything. This convinced the Liberators to stay on world to train and support the planetary militia so the world would not suffer again.[34]

  • Hambry Memorial DropPort: the only major DropPort on world.[34]
  • Respite: a village.[34]
