The Geifer system was home to at least one habitable world, Geifer III, and as at 3145 was located in the Capella Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[3][4]

System Description

The Geifer system is located near the Aldertaine and Cordiagr systems[5] and consists of a class G9V primary orbited by at least three planets.[1][2]

System History

The Geifer system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra[6] and was a member of the Capellan Commonality prior to the formation of the Capellan Confederation during the mid-twenty-fourth century.[7]

Geifer III

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Geifer III - more commonly known simply as Geifer - is the third planet in the Geifer system and has two moons named Dabney and Mushu.[2]

Planetary History

Geifer was home to the Capellan Institute of Linguistics, founded in 2978.[2] The Institute chose Geifer for a simple reason: In 2218 it was made the library world for the Capellan Republic.[8] During the Second and Third Succession War Geifer and its vast library were heavily damaged by bombing runs; the attackers alleged that these bombing runs were inadvertent, but no-one in the Confederation took these claims seriously. The only areas of the library that survived dealt with the physical sciences and linguistics.[1] As part of the Xin Sheng efforts many Capellan worlds were encouraged to donate copies of available books and information to the Geifer libraries, which were undergoing reconstruction. Outside observers speculated that by 3077 the library would rival that of even the NAIS.[2]

The Capellan Institute of Linguistics proved a boon for the Capellan diplomatic service and the Maskirovka. Diplomats trained here were skilled in how their opposite numbers thought, based on writings from their homeworlds. The Maskirovka also cracked numerous codes and translated foreign documents with resources from the Institute. Beyond all that, the Institute was one of the few major universities that survived the Succession Wars.[1]

Geifer was also home to the "Geifer Pachy", an elephant like creature that was about the size of a Terran ox. Many of the tenant farmers on Geifer's western continent used the Pachy in the same way an ancient Terran farmer would use an ox.[9]
