System Information
X:Y Coordinates12.395 : 290.245[e]

The Gunzburg system was home to at least one habitable world or construct and as at 3145 was located in the Radstadt Province of the Rasalhague Dominion.[1][2]

System Description

The Gunzburg system is located near the Heiligendreuz and Vorarlberg systems.[1][2]

System History

The Gunzburg system was settled by the Lyran Commonwealth during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War.[3][4]

Planetary History

First Succession War

Gunzburg was one of a number of strategically important systems in the Lyran Commonwealth to be subjected to bombardment by the Draconis Combine between 2786 and 2790, as the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces began to crack under the pressure of continuing efforts to annex the Bolan Thumb while also attempting to maintain a defensive posture against both the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery and the Free Worlds League Military.[45]

Fourth Succession War

Gunzburg was attacked as part of the exploitation phase wave of attacks launched during Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG in October and November 3028.[46] Gunzburg was considered a secondary target; the only particular value assigned to the planet by the Lyran Commonwealth was a pair of small terraforming plants dating back to the Star League era - otherwise, Gunzburg was simply a planet with deep tropical rain forests, murky swamps and a garrison in the form of the Twenty-second Rasalhague Regulars.[22] The battle for Gunzburg on into 3029,[47] as the Bad Dream and Mobile Fire mercenary commands spent weeks attempting to ferret the Twenty-second out of their hiding places on the planet. The Regulars had used their extensive knowledge of the local terrain to stay ahead of the two mercenary commands and to slip away each time they came into contact.[22]

In August 3029 the Twenty-second intercepted a communications message from Colonel Quentin Moore, commander of Mobile Fire, requesting assistance from the Bad Dream due to more than half of his command being afflicted with Birnheart's Fever, a debilitating illness common to Gunzburg. Tai-sho Tassen Sorenson, the commanding officer of the Regulars, felt that the time was right for a direct attack on the weakened mercenary command, as the communications intercept showed the Bad Dream to be three hours or more away from being able to offer assistance.[22]

Moving to the coordinates given by Moore, the Twenty-second found the location to be a deserted camp with nothing more than a half-dozen 'Mechs present and no sign of enemy troops. As Sorenson's troops moved into the open, heat traces in the swamp revealed the presence of Mobile Fire forces as the concealed mercenary BattleMechs began emerging from the swamp to attack the Regulars at close range. Even as Moore's forces were revealing themselves the Bad Dream began to attack the Regulars from behind, and Sorenson realized that he and his troops had been deceived. Sorenson ordered the Twenty-second to surrender rather than be destroy - an embarrassing defeat for the Combine - before committing suicide, leaving Gunzburg in Lyran hands.[22]

Operation REVIVAL

In 3050 Gunzburg was defended by General Tor Miraborg and the Gunzburg Eagles along with the First and Second Gunzburg Mechanized Infantry Regiments and the First Gunzburg Armored Regiment. At this time General Miraborg was also commander of all FRR forces in the Radstadt Province. In December 3051 the planet was attacked by Clan Wolf as part of the Fifth Wave of Operation REVIVAL. In the bid to determine who would conquer the planet were Khan Natasha Kerensky and Star Colonel Marcos Radick. Earlier in the invasion, Star Colonel Radick had fallen prey to Natasha's sharp bidding practices and been forced to conquer Memmingen with a dangerously low number of troops. This time he sought to return the favor by driving her way below the cutdown. To the shock of those in attendance, Khan Kerensky drove her bid down even further and agreed to conquer the planet with just one man: Star Commander Phelan Kell. Thankfully, prior to his capture by Clan Wolf, the Star Commander was on familiar terms with General Miraborg, and after negotiating with him Phelan was able to convince the General to surrender peacefully.[29]
