The Halfway system is the location of at least one inhabited world and as of 3085 was located in the Bolan Province of the Lyran Commonwealth.[2]

System Description

Halfway is located near the Nichol's Rest and Smolnik systems.

System History

By 3130, Halfway had disappeared from the interstellar charts.[3] The reason for this is unknown.[See Notes]

Planetary History

Age of War

Reversing several losses against the Lyran Commonwealth, Captain-General Peter Marik II of the Free Worlds League led a successful campaign against the Lyran Commonwealth, recapturing worlds in 2441 and then, in 2446, striking into the Commonwealth with the capture of Halfway and Smolnik.[5]

Star League

During the final years of the Star League, Halfway was the host to a Star League Defense Force garrison.[34]

Jihad

An enclave on the continent of Krakatau was "gifted" to the mercantile Clan Diamond Shark in the late 3070s, something that caused concern throughout the local region.[1] While the creation of the enclave marked a new level of interaction with the nations of the Inner Sphere for the Diamond Sharks,[35] there were some reports circulating that falsely claimed that Devlin Stone had attempted to force Archon Adam Steiner to gift the entire planet to the Sharks.[1]

The enclave on Halfway allowed the Sharks to gain influence as far away as Sian as they built and maintained connections with major Inner Sphere corporations.[35] In the meantime, Halfway continued to develop military industries looking to use the planet's remote location as a form of defense; by 3079 the Arcturan Arms facility on Baldic Island was manufacturing the Marsden II Main Battle Tank on Halfway, while the Lestrade Motors plant near Wrightport on Dobson was producing the Büffel VII Engineering Support Vehicle.[1]

Military Deployment

2764

3064

3079

  • Halfway Militia[1]
- The militia's training programs, located in the capital city of Torrence, focused on Vehicles and unarmored infantry.

Geography

Halfway has three major continents: Dobson, Gespar, and Krakatau. Halfway is best described as a barely habitable rock. With only primitive, fern-like vegetation as the highest form of life, Halfway has largely been a stopover point for travelers for centuries.[1]

Planetary Location

  • Baldic Barony: site of the Arcturan Arms plant[1]
  • Bune: a city situated on the banks of the Graham River[36]
  • Graham River[36]
  • Torrence: planetary capital city on the Gespar continent[1]
  • Wrightport: location of the Lestrade Motors plant on Dobson[1]

Industrial Centers

Notes

^ Regarding Halfway's disappearance from Inner Sphere maps after 3085, one of the BattleTech Line Developers has jokingly said that Halfway perished of old age by 3130 before making a cryptic reference to radiation:

Halfway dies of natural causes sometime between 3079 and 3130. It lived to a ripe old age and in the end there was nothing to be done.

if there are any Sea foxes there, they better be wearing space suits and radiation protection is all I'm saying...
