Hartwig Nieder-Gassel is a German author, game designer, artist and translator in the RPG and boardgaming industry. He worked with FanPro and contributed to a wide range of game systems including Midgard and BattleTech, and contributed numerous articles to FanPro's house magazine Wunderwelten.

With regards to BattleTech he was a prolific author of scenarios and game rules that would blend boardgaming and role-playing. Most of these were published in Wunderwelten, but he also authored the original German scenario pack Ronin! which was published by FanPro and later broadly canonized in the fully canonical Historical: Brush Wars. (German language publications as such do not meet the current criteria for canon for the BattleTech universe.)

His "personal" mercenary unit was Camerons Legion; they were usually at the center of his stories or scenarios.
