System Information

The Hellespont system was home to at least one habitable world or construct and as at 3145 was an independent system located in the near Periphery between the borders of the Calderon Protectorate and the Taurian Concordat.[1][2]

System Description

The Hellespont system is located slightly more than two jumps from the nearest notable systems to have been inhabited during the history of the Concordat, Argos and Carthage.[1][2]

System History

The Hellespont system was either colonized by the Taurian Concordat at some point during the wave of clandestine colonization performed during the early Thirty-first century, or was an already-inhabited system that became significant enough during this period to have its location recorded on maps by Inner Sphere nations.[3][4][5][6]

Planetary History

Hellespont was the location of the headquarters of the ComStar Explorer Corps Rimward Operations Area.[30] While Hellespont declined offers to join the breakaway Calderon Protectorate when the Protectorate seceded from the Taurian Concordat, this resource-rich world played a vital role in providing supplies to the Protectorate.[31] Supplies such as modular construction and housing units built in the Taurian Concordat flowed through Hellespont to worlds like Erod's Escape until the Concordat War of Vengeance against the Federated Suns caused supplies to dry up.[32]

The war between the Taurian Concordat and Federated Suns officially ended on the 2nd of July 3080 in the aftermath of Operation MATADOR, but the fortunes of the Concordat continued to decline. Many worlds, lacking confidence in the Concordat's central government, seceded from the Concordat; Tyrrhenia was the first of the Concordat worlds to do so,[33] leaving the Concordat even before the Jihad had begun, with Hellespont leaving soon after,[5][23] and a number of other worlds close to the border of the Calderon Protectorate had done the same by 3085. Where the Taurian government had fought a war a decade before with the breakaway Protectorate, Tyrrhenia and the other worlds that left the Concordat in the aftermath of the Jihad were effectively ignored in favor of reinforcing the narrow salient securing the Pleiades Cluster.[33]
