History[edit]

The MechWarrior known as Jake Collins acquired a degree of fame[1] in 3077[1][2] when he fought a gladiator duel on Astrokaszy in which he defeated an opponent piloting a Rifleman. What made the match so distinctive was that Collins was piloting a heavily converted bespoke variant of the Crosscut IndustrialMech, and that Collins defeated his opponent by shutting the Rifleman down with a BattleMech Taser before using the Crosscut's Chainsaw to remove the Rifleman's limbs. Footage of the match proved remarkably popular.[1]

The origin of the heavily-modified Crosscut piloted by Collins began with a small IndustrialMech manufacturer named Siguere IndustrialMechs, based on Andurien. Siguere had begun development of a LoggerMech variant that could operate in hostile environments, in an effort to increase their market share. Collins, a disgraced Free Worlds League Military pilot, was hired as a test pilot for their prototype 'Mech, but after a decade of work Siguere shelved the project, having been unable to develop the concept to a point where mass production was viable. Collins stole the prototype in 3074 and vanished, only to reappear in 3077 on Astrokaszy, with the prototype 'Mech having been modified well beyond the Siguere IndustrialMechs design.[1]

Duncan "Grazer" Croft, the editor-in-chief of the publication Solaris Games Enthusiast, reported on Collins' victory against the Rifleman and published details of the background history of Collins and the stolen prototype. Croft speculated that whether Collins would be able to repeat the success of his first match remained an open question at the time of publication in December 3077, and also highlighted that Collins' fate may well depend on whether Siguere IndustrialMechs chose to pursue him through the legal courts.[1]

BattleMechs[edit]

In the 3070s Collins piloted a stolen, heavily-modified ED-XX Crosscut "Icabod".[1]
