History[edit]

Sadalbari[edit]

Growing up in a family committed to military service with the Republic, Mazzanoble was taught to aspire to membership of the Knights of the Republic of the Sphere from his earliest childhood. Studying and training hard for this privilege, once he had finally achieved the rank of Knight-Errant of the Republic and was on his way to Terra to receive his first assignment, his career was interrupted by the Blackout. Alone on Sadalbari and cut off from his superiors, Mazzanoble however responded well, helping to maintain calm in the local population and reestablish contact with other Knights on neighboring worlds. In the few defensive military actions he was required to participate in, he also demonstrated excellent marksmanship, though he remained relatively inexperienced.

While his successes on Sadalbari were not enough to earn promotion to be a full Knight of the Republic as of 3133, it did make him a favorite of the Paladins on Terra, who appreciated his commitment to duty in the face of the crisis faced by the Republic.[1] At this stage Mazzanoble was also notionally in command of a Crossbow Lance within the Knights, which also included fellow Knights Kristoff Erbe, Romonda Dianalyn and Cedirick Lamarr.[3]

Terra[edit]

In the years between 3133 and 3150, while Mazzanoble's Republican ideals were tested many times, he remained loyal and was eventually promoted to be a full Knight. As of 3150, he was posted on Terra, ready to defend the Republic's heart to the bitter end.[4][4]

He fulfilled this desire in the Battle of Terra in 3151, participating in Operation NIGHTHAWK, Damien Redburn's false flag Head Hunting attack aimed at taking out the leadership of Clan Wolf and Clan Jade Falcon. The sole survivor of the Republic's assassination attempt on Khan Malvina Hazen, he was executed on9 March by Hazen during a live broadcast across Terra, as a warning to those who would continue to resist the Falcons. Mazzanoble was defiant to the end however, cursing Hazen to her face and biting her lip so hard it scared when she tried to kiss him, before she slit his throat with a knife.[2][5][6]

BattleMech[edit]

Mazzanoble was known to have piloted a Black Hawk 3 OmniMech, serial number GB378-67L, named "Ever-Faithful". Built for Clan Ghost Bear, this 'Mech saw heavy combat in Word of Blake Jihad, before later being donated to the Republic on its formation.[1][4][7]

Notes[edit]

Mazzanoble is referred to as a Knight-Errant by Malvin Hazen in 3151 in Hour of the Wolf, a rank which is repeated in the Star Colonel Rosetta Jennings' report on his death in the IlClan sourcebook, which is inconsistent with his promotion by 3150 as described in Technical Readout: 3150 and Technical Readout: Dark Age. As the later sources come from a Clan perspective, for the purposes of this article it has been assumed the Clans were unaware of his promotion, and he was in fact still a full Knight at the time of his death.
