Joseph Davion II (Born 2864 – Died 2935) was the son of Michael Davion by his second marriage, to Katherine O'Connell. A warrior prince, he spent most of his reign on the frontlines of the Third Succession War.[1]

Biography

The youngest son of Michael Davion learned the art of war at the knee of his sister Melissa and rose rapidly through the ranks of the AFFS. When he took command of the 2nd Avalon Hussars in 2891 he was the youngest Marshal in the history of the Federated Suns. He was lionized as a hero after his successful invasion of Robinson and inherited the throne unexpectedly only a few months later.

A charismatic leader and aggressive soldier, Joseph made frequent trips to the frontlines to bolster morale and participate in battle. Unwilling to take advice or to delegate authority, his absences from New Avalon almost paralyzed the government of the Federated Suns.

Joseph was persuaded to accept a ceasefire with the Capellan Confederation in 2905, which was maintained for twenty-five years. Among the provisions of the armistice was a ban on attacking JumpShips, a precedent that would last long after he and his son Peter Davion resumed the attack on the Confederation.

During the invasion of Xhosa VII in 2930 Joseph's BattleMaster was damaged by an aerospace bombing run and he was severely injured. The following year he abdicated in favor of his son and spent the remaining years of his life dependent upon medical life support.

Quotes

This is how I see society. At the top are the Davions. Next come the nobility and the military. Then the government. At the bottom are the common citizens. The bottom serves the top. This is the way all societies have been since the first time a strong man declared himself king and demanded that the weaker members of the tribe serve him. Why tamper with the natural order of things?
