History

Kappa Galaxy was Clan Ghost Bear's fleet defense and mobile reserve force. Units of this Galaxy, sometimes as small as a single Trinary, were posted to WarShips and supply bases throughout the Periphery during Operation Revival.

First Draconis Combine/Ghost Bear War

After the First Draconis Combine / Ghost Bear War erupted following an attack on Alshain by rogue elements of the Alshain Avengers brigade of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery in 3062, Clan Hell's Horses launched an opportunistic invasion of the Ghost Bear Occupation Zone[1] in 3063[2] at the urging of the Khan of Clan Wolf, Vladimir Ward.[1] One of the casualties of this campaign was Kappa Galaxy's Sixty-third Provisional Garrison Cluster, which was stationed on the world of Goito when the Hell's Horses Gamma Galaxy struck. The Sixty-third took heavy enough damage that after the invasion was rebuffed the Sixty-third was disbanded and the surviving personnel and equipment used to help rebuild other damaged units.[3]

The Jihad

Dyev

After landing on Dyev during a wave of attacks against worlds in the Word of Blake Protectorate in July 3076,[4][5] Kappa Galaxy found itself facing a Blakist counteroffensive in December when a task force breached the blockade of Ghost Bear and Snow Raven ships in orbit and landed six Divisions of troops on the surface of Dyev. The Blakists landed around Trogport and the planetary capital, Novaya Mensk, before deploying outwards. Kappa Galaxy found itself fighting alongside Pi Galaxy against the 32nd Militia Division and the 2nd New Earth and 1st Zosma Protectorate Militia Divisions; the Blakists used the fortifications built in previous years by the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery to try and resist the Ghost Bear attack.[6] History records that the 32nd Militia Division was subsequently destroyed on Dyev before the end of 3076.[7]

Dark Age

After the Jihad ended Kappa Galaxy was stationed along the Rasalhague Dominion's Periphery border. There they served as pirate hunters until just prior to the Blackout. Kappa's component units had done their jobs so well that pirates stopped attacking the Dominion, and this lack of action was affecting their skill levels. The unit was reassigned to garrison the Dominion's border with Clan Hell's Horses, and officers and warriors from Kappa's commands often visited the Christian Månsdottir School of Combat. Kappa's "vehicle" Binaries were often NL-45 small craft used to transport their Elemental marines into boarding actions. The Galaxy had permanently assigned JumpShip and DropShip assets, but in 3145 these were loaned to the Dominion's Tau Galaxy.[8]

Officers

As of 3061 the commanding officer was Galaxy Commander Rhea Devon who continued to command Kappa Galaxy until at least as late as 3067.[9]

In 3145 the commanding officer is Galaxy Commander James Devon. His aide is Star Colonel Muriel Icaza.[10]

Tactics

The Elementals of Kappa Galaxy were very good marines, drilling constantly in both performing and repelling boarding attacks against DropShips, JumpShips, and WarShips. Due to their highly-distributed assignments, the units of Kappa were not skilled in operations that required a Cluster or Galaxy. Instead they were much more comfortable with Trinary size operations.[11]
