Overview

The Kell Hounds are a mercenary unit founded by Morgan Kell and his brother Patrick. Known present and former members, other than its founders, include Jack Tang (died on The Rock), Phelan Kell (a former member who became khan of the Wolves-in-Exile) and Dan Allard who eventually assumed command of the unit. Their unit colors are red and black and their insignia is that of a hound's head.

History

In 3025 the unit strength was stated as one battallion of veteran skill level, and the CO was Lieutenant Colonel Patrick M Kell. At that time they were in the employ of the Federated Suns. The unit was involved in the rescue of Melissa Steiner from Combine forces, an operation in which Patrick Kell lost his life. Ironically, the Kell Hounds along with the Wolf's Dragoons were sent to the Combine capital of Luthien during the Clan Invasion by Hanse Davion to support the forces there. Prior to that they were one of the units involved in the defense of Twycross under the leadership of Victor Steiner-Davion during the Clan Invasion's first wave.

When the Wolves-in-Exile, led by former Kell Hound Phelan Kell, arrived in the Inner Sphere circa 3058 they were eventually allowed to set up in Arc-Royal by the Kell Hounds. The Kell Hounds also formed the Arc-Royal Defense Cordon (ARDC) under the command of Morgan Kell sometime after Katherine Steiner-Davion took control of the Federated Commonwealth from her siblings. This placed them in a position to defend Lyran space from Clan incursions, more specifically the Jade Falcons but also the Crusader Wolves.

Other Appearances

The Kell Hounds appear in the MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries PC game as potential sponsors, employers (New Exford), and allies (Tharkad). Units sponsored by the Kell Hounds have earlier access to Clan tech, though not as early as Wolf's Dragoons who start the game with it.
