The Lao-tzu was one of two Union-class DropShips serving with Warrior House Hiritsu of the Capellan Confederation during the conquest of Kaifeng in 3058.[1] (The name of its sister ship was not mentioned.)
Notably, both Unions carried their full complement of twelve BattleMechs but "had also crammed a full platoon of infantry with transport vehicles into the bays", suggesting that they must somehow have been modified to carry this extra load (presumably by removing or reconverting their aerospace fighter bays; neither vessel was mentioned to carry aerospace fighters).[1]
