- This article discusses the entire German line of BattleTech novels, the majority of which were translated from novels published in English by FASA and ROC in the United States.

While FanPro produced and published the German edition of BattleTech since 1988, they were too small to handle publication of the accompanying novel line themselves except for the German translation of the Shrapnel anthology, which they published under their Phoenix imprint. The novels, meanwhile, were published by Heyne, a major German publishing house, from 1989 onwards in a similar fashion to how ROC took over publishing the novels while FASA published the game in the United States.
Just like ROC, Heyne also produced the later "MechWarrior" and "MechWarrior: Dark Age" spinoff lines.
FanPro created extra content in addition to translating FASA material, and similarly Heyne published one original German BattleTech novel (Phoenix) in 2001 as well as a sourcebook dedicated to the BattleTech franchise as a whole.
FanPro, having reduced themselves to the book publisher that previously was their Phoenix imprint, launched a new line of novels under the "Classic BattleTech" moniker in 2004. This line, which included reprints of older novels comprised mostly of new, original fiction, was put on hold in 2008 following licensing disagreements with the American IP owners; Ulisses Spiele subsequently acquired the rights and continued the novel lines in 2011 where Heyne and FanPro, respectively, had left off.
- Canonicity
German publications as such do not fall under the current definition of Canon for the BattleTech universe. Consequently, those German-only books that were not translated from an English publication but were published under a valid license can be considered apocryphal.
