Description

The Longinus is the Free Worlds League Military's attempt to duplicate Elemental Battle Armor. Though they were unable to match the original Clan-tech machine, the Longinus comes the closest of any Inner Sphere attempt, thanks at least in part to the help of the Word of Blake. Though it has slightly less armor than the Elemental, the Longinus has matched its ninety meters jump range.

Armament

The Longinus has an integral One-Shot SRM-2. Other Inner Sphere battle armor were unable to mount the missile launcher, but the League and Word designers managed to fit it, albeit at cost of the Longinus being unable to jump until after the missile pack is jettisoned. This means that the Longinus cannot make anti-'Mech attacks as long as the missile launcher is still attached, but it can mount OmniMechs for the purposes of transportation.

An often-overlooked capability is that of the anti-personnel weapon mount that can carry a light weapon for use against unarmored personnel, such as a sub-machine gun. The modular weapon mount can carry the standard array of Small Laser, Flamer, and Machine Gun. In addition, it can also accommodate a "David" Light Gauss Rifle that has almost three times the range of the Small Laser, but only a third of the damage potential.

Variants

  • Magnetic - The Jihad version replaced the APM Mounted rack for Magnetic Clamps, the mounted standard MG take best friend with the new equipped Heavy Machine Gun, for incredible short-range punch.[5] BV (2.0) = 47[6]
  • Logninus "Hacked" - This version was built by a Tech in the Principality of Regulus. Taking a standard Longinus suit and shedding the jump jets and some armor, and reducing the weapons payload capability, allowed the Tech to install an experimental Battle Armor C3i System captured from the Word of Blake. The Hacked model can carry either a light Machine Gun or a "David" Light Gauss Rifle in a Modular Weapon Mount, as well as a secondary weapon on an Anti-Personnel Weapon Mount. Though effective in extending a sensor network and providing targeting data, the tradeoff in weapons, armor, and mobility was too great, and the Principality shelved the project.[7] MG BV (2.0) = 26[8] David Light Gauss Rifle BV (2.0) = 28[9]
