Manipulator or Manipulator Arm is a type of large dextrous actuator which is a smaller and less sophisticated version of a 'Mech's Arm and hand actuators. Mounted on vehicles, the device is more advanced than a robot arm found in a factory, in which gives a user the ability to handle objects with better care than a clumpy gripper.

There is a smaller version of the Manipulator, which is known simply as Basic Manipulator. Which a human user using it may control more directly while using a Exoskeleton or a Battle Armor.[1]

History

Like it's cousin the Salvage Arm, the Manipulator an ancient technology, where the technology was first developed circa the year 2000.[2]

Capabilities

There arms can typically lift upwards to a 100 kilograms of weight and be as big as five meters. The Manipulator Arm is typically use in hazardous conditions, where operate needs to be protected from harm such as hazardous chemicals/waste or used on a vehicle used in airless environment.[3]

Notes

  • In TechManual, the article for Manipulator notes further uses for the equipment would be detailed in the then-upcoming CBT: RPG (Revised) manual, which contains Advance rules. A Time of War RPG rule book, the successor to CBT: RPG, does not list any functions for this particular piece equipment with exception of the Basic Manipulator for the Battle Armor and Exoskeletons.

Rules

Construction Rules

Manipulators have Tech Rating of C and be fitted on either a any type of Support Vehicle or Combat Vehicle. Up to two Manipulator arms may be mounted per location on any allowed vehicle with exception of Rotors (VTOL Location). Manipulators weight .01 tons.[4]

Game Rules

The manipulator arm has no functional use in Total Warfare rules. Up to two Manipulator arms may be mounted per location on any allowed vehicle with exception of Rotors (VTOL Location).[5]
