Description

The Mark VII Landing Craft is a military shuttlecraft in used with transporting cargo from orbit to planet side battlefields. This version of the Mark has been service with Inner Sphere powers since 2841.

Armaments & Capacities

The ship's principle weaponry include pair of nose mounted Small Lasers. Mark VII has a pair of medium lasers mounted in its right and left wing sections. Rounding out its fight capacities, it also has mounted pair of Medium Lasers in aft section.

The ship is protected by 13 tons of Standard Armor. The Mark VII is a unique Aerodyne small craft. This is due to its ability to use its VTOL capacity to hover short period times over landing site. This allows it to land in rough terrian, where other Aerodyne type small craft must use landing strips. The Mark VII is prized for this capacity.

Cargo

The ship has 67.44 ton cargo capacity in a single large(14m long by 8m wide by 5m tall)bay 1 with a floor lifting/lowering system and is used to carry the Rommel and Patton tanks.[1]

Variants

  • Egret - A variant developed exclusively for ComStar's Explorer Corps, the Egret trades cargo capacity for increased fuel tonnage. [2]
  • Mark VIIC - The Clan version of the ubiquitous Mark VII Landing Craft is outfitted with Clan technology and yet is little changed from the Inner Sphere models. The ship's armaments include two nose mounted Medium Pulse Lasers, with pair Mediums Pulse Lasers mounted in the ship's right, left wing sections and two mounted in aft. The ship's armor capacity is ton less than the Inner Sphere version, however its protection is greater. BV (2.0) = 1,027[3]

Notes

The Craft's origin is a mystery. The mystery includes its introduction year being set in middle of the Succession Wars. During this time period the Clans had no contact with the Inner Sphere. It not clear if there are earlier version of the Mark VII had existed, since it not possible for the ship to be introduced at same time by both groups.

The craft's original appeared in DropShips & JumpShips sourcebook using the original Aerotech rules set. The ship sported completely differient weaponry, and it was produced by principly by House Liao, and partially by Steiner & Kurita. However, its not clear why weaponry was radically changed from its original configuration.
