Major General Michael Romanov was the commander of the Star League Defense Force's 146th Royal BattleMech Division as of 2764.[1]

After nearly 20 years with a very high tempo of combat operations, Major General Romanov was happy to see his unit rotated away from an active front as of 2764, due to his concerns about the battle fatigue its members may have been suffering from. Seeking to provide a change of pace, Romanov had his unit forgo combat drills, in preference for obstacle course contests which tested fitness and mental acuity.
The results from these practices were so positive that even Royal Command noticed, though at the same time they turned a blind eye to a hazing ritual for new members which had arisen in the 146th under Romanov's command, being slaps to the face.[1]

The face slapping hazing ritual of the Romanov's 146th Royal BattleMech Division, is a reference to its nickname the George S. Patton Division, a World War II General famous for a number of incidents where he slapped troops under his command.
