The Nellus Academy was a Free Worlds League military academy in Pylos, the capital of Nestor.[1]
Overview and History[edit]
By 3067, Nellus was a small school, keeping its young students for four years of academic instruction and military training. By the time students graduated, they would be of age to join the FWLM. A wide range of classes was available.[1]
In October 3067, a group of eight top Nellus Academy cadets were sent on what was meant to be a straightforward voyage to Concord with General Gurald Eichner, in theory as a public relations event in honor of Nestor's new refueling station. Less openly, the cadets were meant to help detect a Lyran spy operating at the Nestor spaceport.[2] After setting off on the Requirement on 21 October, Eichner and the cadets ran into trouble: hijackers, the Lyran-hired Bloody Stoats, who came to capture the general.[3] Clashes between the cadets and the hijackers led to the DropShip crashing on Phobos, a planetoid in the Gienah system that held the Stoats' base. Fighting continued between the wreckage and the base, and eventually the cadets managed to call a League force in for evacuation. General Eichner and four of the cadets died in battle, and the remaining four cadets were evacuated.[4]
Cant[edit]
Nellus Academy students learned a nonverbal cant based primarily around gestures. This cant stayed consistent across generations of students, to the extent that by 3067 any Nellus graduate would be able to communicate with it with any other Nellus graduate.[5]
