The New Avalon Cavaliers were formed from the survivors of the famed Team Banzai after the last FedCom Civil War. During the final days of the reign of Katrina Steiner-Davion, the members had built a support base for the allies and when the invasion began they secured the Fox Den and New Avalon Institute of Science. The unit proved its worth after it rebuilt and was therefore considered an elite unit by the AFFS.[1]
At the start of the Jihad, their composition was that of a combat-ready reinforced regiment.[1][2]
In December 3067, the command was decimated by naval bombardment when they defended the NAIS against the Blakists in the initial assault. Survivors were absorbed into the First Davion Guards.[2]

- Although the unit was renamed from Team Banzai, ostensibly to avoid real-life trademark hassles concerning the 1984 film The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, the names of the CO and XO of the unit are still links to the original Banzai homage: John Parker was the cover name of the Black Lectroid, played by Carl Lumbly, who assisted the Hong Kong Cavaliers in their mission against the Red Lectroids, while William Carruthers evokes "Pinky" Carruthers, played by Billy Vera, who was an auxiliary member of the Cavaliers.[3]
- Mercenaries Supplemental Update (2006, p. 13) indicates the unit was destroyed by a Word of Blake orbital bombardment in December 3068. However, the later source Jihad Turning Points: New Avalon (2009, p. 6) indicates they were heavily damaged—and absorbed directly into the First Davion Guards—during the first assault landings and bombardments, which occurred in December 3067. Sarna aligns with CGL's policy to defer to the later product when inconsistencies occur in the canon.
