No Limits, by Nigel Findley, is highly unusual because it is not a proper BattleTech novel but rather a crossover novel. It was originally published outside of the BattleTech line of books by Roc Books and under the "Virtual Worlds" moniker instead of "BattleTech", apparently to promote the Virtual World Entertainment pods that are also shown on the cover.

The distinction was blurred in Germany, however, when Heyne, the publisher of the German line of BattleTech novels, published the German translation of this novel as #35 ("Höhenflug") in their line of official BattleTech novels.

The novel is actually primarily set in the real world at the present time and features the BattleTech universe as an alternate reality within its storyline.

Buckle up—you're off to Elsewhen

Samantha Dooley is a hotshot pilot with a thirst for adrenaline, and no risk she takes can satisfy her craving for adventure. But when her beloved grandfather passes away, he leaves behind a mystery that's going to require more than fancy stick work to solve. For James R. Dooley, Sr., was more than just an ace fighter jock—he was a full member of the Virtual Geographic League. Crooked cops, conniving lawyers, and crack assassins can't stop Sam from infiltrating a secret VGL installation, but they're nothing compared to what she finds inside. Because Samantha Dooley takes a one-way ride to "Elsewhen"—where Warriors call the shots, and huge, high-tech BattleMechs blast each other across sun-baked badlands on a virtual future world called Solaris Seven. Her grandfather never told her that work could be so much fun....

Based on the phenomenally successful BattleTech® virtual reality game as featured at Virtual World® sites worldwide, No Limits is science fiction at a breakneck pace.
