Obrenovac
System Information
X:Y Coordinates-187.43 : -335.55[e]

The Obrenovac system was the location of at least one habitable world and as at 3145 was an independent system located in the border region between the Rim Commonality province of the Free Worlds League, the Duchy of Andurien and the Magistracy of Canopus.[1][2]

System Description

The Obrenovac system is located close to the Bethonolog and Cranston systems.[3][4]

System History

The Obrenovac system was colonised at some point prior to the end of the Age of War.[5][6][3]

Reunification War

War between the Star League and the Magistracy of Canopus was inevitable after the Magistracy joined the other Periphery nations in rejecting the Pollux Proclamation; when the war began, Obrenovac was a key trade hub for the Magistracy of Canopus, and in March 2579 was targetted for conquest by the Star League Defense Force task force led by Captain-General Marion Marik. The task force had faced setbacks earlier in the war, and was proceeding slowly in 2579, making sure that planets were targetted with overwhelming numbers of troops to reduce the effect of any resistance; in a short campaign lasting from the 19th to the 25th of March 2579, Obrenovac was conquered by the combined forces of the SLDF Fifty-fifth and Fifty-sixth Brigades supported by the First and Fourth Marik Militias.[8][43]

With twenty assorted regiments of troops used in the conquest of Obrenovac the occupation itself was little more than a police action with the SLDF rapidly taking control of government buildings and infrastructure. By January 2580 the task force had also secured the worlds of Eleusis and Bethonolog alongside Obrenovac, and in doing so had secured the entire anti-spinward flank of their advance into the Magistracy.[8] Despite the quick occupation of Obrenovac, political protests, strikes and marches began which threatened to paralyze the planetary capital; much of the disruption was being engineered by a partially trained operative from the Magistracy Intelligence Ministry and his local supporters, who attempted to incite protestors into attacking the SLDF garrison. Instead, the protestors turned on him and his cohorts and handed them over the SLDF garrison commander, Colonel Richard Adams. Adams responded by meeting with the leaders of the protestors and making it clear that so long as the protests remained peaceful and nonviolent, the SLDF wouldn't interefere; the protestors responded by setting up self-policing measures, and by mid-2584 daily life on Obrenovac was effectively completely unchanged from it's pre-war norms.[8]

The Magistracy of Canopus had 13 worlds annexed by the Free Worlds League, either during the Reunification War[9] or by Star League decree in 2602,[44] and Obrenovac was one of these worlds.
